I'm thinking about applying for a new balance transfer card and would like some input.
My current scores are TU 776, EX 770 and EQ 759. TU is clean and EX and EQ have a 5 1/2 yr old 30 day late. Util is at 15%, one inquiry on each bureau and my newest cards are 8 1/2 years old.
I am looking at BoA BBR card which does come as a prequal on my account when signed in. I have the Cash Rewards card, which does have BT offers but I like to use that card for my regular spend.
The other choice is Discover IT which shows the prequal online and via mailer as 11.24 - 14.24%. I realize that this isn't a solid prequal.
I also would like a Barclay RIng but don't think I really need it. Also prequal via mailer and online. Again not a solid prequal.
If I were to apply for one or more of these cards, is there a certain order I should do it? Also, if I decide to apply for Discover or Ring, should I put in the prequal code from the mailer?
Not in a rush and may not do this for a couple months or ever. I'm conservative when it comes to applying. Thanks!
Your scores look good to get whatever you want, however, if BT is the goal ensure you are looking at long-term APRs. The Slate, Ring are designed for carrying balances while the BBR would be overkill for the $30 per quarter. PenFed and NFCU also have options for BTs (Promise and Platinum) and NFCU is offering 2.99% BT currently.
Your scores are fine. Since you are conservative in apping, I'd suggest going for the Discover card first. This gives you another bank to transfer to / from the BofA card. If you go for the BBR right now, you have two BofA cards and can't transfer directly between those.
Then, after a few months, apply for the BBR.
What other cards do you have that you are considering BT from / to?

IMHO the Ring is the best balance transfer card. Zero fee + low interest. With your TU score you shouldn't have a problem getting it.

Chase Slate was very good to me and helped me get out of a hole for the last 15 months. Now that the 0% has ended I got the NFCU Go Rewards card with 0% BT, although now it is 2.99%. I also got the DIscover IT card for 0%. Your scores are fine and you should be able to get which ever card you like. Chase Slate and NFCU has no BT fees, although the Slate is only good for like 60 days than there is a fee.
One more thing. Apply for the card and then do the BT after you are approved and see what your credit limit will be. Most cards give you at least 10 days after opening the account to put in a BT. That is for the 0% that is.
