Bank of America Credit Limit Increase Request link

I'm curious, I had my cash reward BOA card since January.  The first day I noticed the increase link was already there.  I never tried to ask for increase, I was so happy that bank of america gave me a chance.  I was content with $2500 limit.  It has been about 5 months now and the link is still there.  Since the link has been there since day 1, am I eligible for an increase?  Is there a chance of denial? Will it be a hard pull?  I spend about $4000 a month on this card with only a $2500 limit.  I make several payments every month and always pay it off by the statement date.

Should I go for it or wait until its at least 6 months?

Re: Bank of America Credit Limit Increase Request link

No harm in asking for an increase if the link is there. It is a SP so no impact to your credit. Some people have to wait awhile before being able to ask for a CLI from BofA. Like my wife didn't see a link for increases show up til a year after approval for her PR card

If you do try to ask for CLI try to shoot for the moon and let them counter-offer you. For example don't just ask for double your current limit to $5k but reach further like in the $20-30k range and let them make the decision to match or give your a partial increase. You have nothing to lose really since they're the ones asking what you'd like your new limit to be. If they give you everything you asked it might mean you left some on the table so go big. Personally, with the kind of spend you're putting on the card you'll get an increase for sure I would think

Good luck!

Re: Bank of America Credit Limit Increase Request link

I always see people mention the "request a credit line increase" being there or not there. I have 2 cards with them for years and it's been there since day 1 and has never left on both cards, even after doing a CLI, it remains. If you do ask for lower than what you could have been approved for or you think there is more left on the table, you can do another CLI and see if they will give you more.

If it's not approved, it does not change when you can ask again. You can ask every day (I wouldn't) but technically you can until you get approval since it's just a SP. If not, they will just send a letter stating that there was a recent increase on the account, with no other impacts.

Also, it's a soft pull from your current TU report, not the score/last report they pulled showing in your account as some other places use for their SP.

The appearance of the link is not aligned to guaranteed eligibility or approval likelihood.  Some have noted the link there right after their account was opened, some after time has passed.  The appearance is not intended to imply anything...

All it means is that the autobot thinks that you're eligible to ask for a CLI.  As you correctly point out its appearance doesn't translate to an approval being a shoo-in, and by the same token multiple members here have happily discovered that one can call in a request and get approved for a CLI even if there is no link when they log in online.

If there is an online approval the link will normally remain until after BoA's next early morning batch processes run 6 days a week, which means it's possible to request another CLI right away after an approval but the 2nd request will almost always result in a 7-10 day notice and manual review by an analyst.   A 7-10 day notice with the link still being there after the next batch run generally means there was a decline.

If there was an approval the link normally will be gone after the next batch run, and the amount of time before it reappears varies.  I once had one reappear after 3 weeks, members here have commonly cited 3 months, yet others have waited for over a year. YMMV.

If you have the link appear for multiple cards, it is possible to get instant approvals on multiple cards on the same day.

If there is a significant change in your credit profile or if market conditions shift, the link can disappear.   BoA for example did unilaterally withdraw them from wide swath of cardholders when the COVID pandemic started to get really spun up.

Bottom line: if the link is there and you want to request a CLI, go for it.  If you don't have a "request a credit limit" link, call the customer service number on the back of your card and tell them you want to request a CLI.   It'll only cost you a soft pull.

Re: Bank of America Credit Limit Increase Request link

Clearly it varies by customer, but my CLI link has been there since day one and never leaves. Not even right after a CLI, or right after a huge BT or purchase, it's just always there.

Re: Bank of America Credit Limit Increase Request link

I thought I was the only one that had this situation. I have 2 BOA cards for 3 years and the CLI button never goes away. I've gotten 4 increases total and 2 denials. Both times the reasons were credit utilization was too high which was 25%  both times. Strangely enough, in the other approvals,  my utilization was the same......Go figure.

In view of the fact that you're spending $4000 month on the card, you should definitely request a CLI.
