...and I cant figure out why. App'ed for the Carnival Mastercard by Barclays last night (cruising in Sept, and the rewards used towards on-board credit is appealing). Denied. Called in for a recon - and was told my 1 year AAoA is insufficent. Nothing bad on my reports, 699 TU score. $120k annual income. /sigh

Barclays doesn't hate you, they decided not to extend you any additional credit. You say you can't figure out why they denied but they told you why on recon. They want to see you have more established credit. From your signature you have added the BlisPay and the Marvel CC which haven't even reported yet, so your AAoA is going to be even lower. You list your income but that is a very small factor in determining whether they'll grant more credit. Take it as a sign that it's time to take a break from new cards and let the ones you have age for some time.

Yep... No new apps or accounts in over a year now.

On a side note, Barclays likes to see history... and with their cards is even better.
I got approved for Sallie Mae in late 2014 with a TU score in the 660's... because I had nearly 2 years history with their Apple card.

Well said! This is excellent advice OP. I hope you take it.

Well said. Just give it time.
Barclays hates me too. In spite of the fact that I only use my cards for bonus categories and interest free balance transfer checks and they've never made a nickel in interest from me, they just won't give me a CLI.

I wouldn't be too upset. The big elephant in the room is that the Carnival MasterCard isn't even a good card for the purpose you have in mind, especially since you currently have a Citi Double Cash card and a Blispay card (according to your signature), and they are absolutely capable of crushing the Carnival MasterCard in rewards. If I can recall correctly, the Carnival MasterCard is 2x points per dollar on Carnival purchases and 1x points on non-Carnival purchases, which are often valued at less than 1 cent a piece. The Double Cash/Blispay cards are 2% back on anything that can be charged as a purchase to the card. If you anticipate FTF, you appear to have a QS available. While it is true that the Carnival card has a small sign up bonus, I wouldn't let the decline bother me too much when you already have better cards for this intended purpose in your possession.
