Baxter Credit Union Launch card

I just applied and got denied for the secured card offered by BCU. I'm not sure what I did wrong because on the denial page it recommended the secured card again, which was the one I applied for. I'm not sure at this point if it somehow submitted my application for an unsecured card
or if I should've just applied for the CU membership first before applying for anything. I should mention I just got out of Chapter 7 (discharged 12/04/17). I was approved for Capital One Platinum Preferred (1% cashback on everything) a few days ago with a $1000 SL.

Does anyone know if you're supposed to apply for the membership first before you apply for their secured card? Also, do they use the same HP for joining the CU and their cards, or do they do a HP every time you apply for anything? I'm trying to limit the number of INQs because of my current credit situation, and I'm not sure if this card will be worth more than one HP. I did call to ask them why the app got denied and was told to call back Tuesday when the main office opens.

With every CU I'm a member of, you have to be a member in order to use their products. Chances are that's the only reason for the denial.
IME most use the same HP for at least 30 days on average, some longer. You'll be fine. You just need to join the CU.

OP i am a member of BCU for almost 4 years now they are very helpful if you just use the word BT with them they just love it i got 30k visa with them that way which is still stuck @30k after 4 years lol but they are good CU helpful .. any way GMood is correct get the membership first than talk to them about the secure account and remember the HP is good for full 30 days so hopefully you will get the Account

Thanks for your input. I'm hoping that is in fact the case. That's what the rep was saying on the phone too, chances are app got denied because of me not being a member. It got me thinking though, they shouldn't let non-members even apply if that's the case. Oh well, hoping it works out on Tuesday when I call.

Appreciate the response. It puts my mind at ease knowing that. The last thing I'd wanna be doing right now is wasting INQs.

They pulled Experian for me for the card. Not sure if they pull ChexSystem since I haven't applied for checking/savings yet.

I think yes chex too but good thing is if you apply credit product over the phone they ask u which report you want to b pulled TU or Exp so once you become member always apply over the phone and than the pull is valid for 30 days 😉
