Best High Limit Card for high 700s FICO

I'm looking for recommendations for a high limit card, preferably with a 0% balance transfer option. I don't mind a small BT fee (3% or under). I've had trouble getting decent CLs when I applied 3-4 years ago. Any help would be appreciated!

Some data points:

1) FICO 8: 796 EQ, 779 TU, 778 EX

2) FICO 8 Bankcard: 800 EQ, 789 TU, 786 EX

3) Current Utilization: 28%

4) No lates or derogs

5) Average age of accounts: 7 yrs 3 mos, oldest account: 27 yrs EQ, 20 yrs TU, 13 yrs EX

6) New credit: 0/24

7) Income: $75K

8) Current cards/limits: AmEx Platinum/NPSL, PayPal/$10k, PenFed CR/$10k, Cap1 Plat/$3.5k, Cap1 QS/$8k, PenFed Gold $15k, Discover IT/$2k, Discover IT (2nd card)/$3k, First Tech/$10k, USAA $5K

I recently joined Navy and I've read it's best to start with one of their other cards before going for Flagship.  Any thoughts or DPs would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

You look good for approval. I'd get the utilization down.

Pen fed and navy seem to go high. I've gotten high limits from amex and wells.

The rationale for waiting to get a different NFCU card first then later try for the Flagship is that a number of past data points suggested  they often like to start off with a comparatively low SL for the 1st card and be more generous with the 2nd one.    Here's a relevant thread if you feel like doing some research on your own:

What is the minimum SL that would meet your needs?   "High Limit" is a fairly subjective term.

Only thing in your given stats that  I think might raise an eyebrow is your current 28% utilization given your TCL and income.

Thanks for the reply @coldfusion and for the link about NFCU - I'll check that out.

I would be thrilled with $15K - $25K, but don't feel that is likely given my profile. $10K-$15K would be great, as most of my cards are in that range. My goal is to pick up a couple cards with the goal of dropping Util under 20%, lowering interest rates on the balance that remains and paying down the balances to AZEO over the next year while going back to gardening.

My long term goal is to have a modest number (under 20) of cards that I can grow limits with as my income improves and Util drops.  I've watch how you,  @Aim_High and others have steadily improved their limits over time while "weeding" out those cards that no longer serve their purposes. Again, thank you for the data points and for helping those of us that are still early in our journey.

Thanks @chrisw1968uk . That's a great SL! Did you have a relatioship with Chase prior to getting the card?

I've been very interested in Chase and I know now is the time before I have too many cards and/or too many inquiries.

Re: Best High Limit Card for high 700s FICO

I received a $10k approval for the Chase Freedom Unlimited at 29.24% apr (ouch) and a $200 SUB. I'll take advantage of their 0% apr for 15 mos (with 3% bt fee) with about half of the available credit and will use the card for the 3% cash back on dining since I have no other cards with that feature and dining is one of my larger monthly spends.  I'll PIF at the 15 mos and then just use this card for dining and PIF every month given the high apr.  I'm happy to be in the Chase ecosystem as I've wanted to begin building a relationship with Chase for a while and figured 0/24 and relatively low credit limits is a great time to begin.

I received an AmEx alert when I applied for the Chase card and logged into their FICO website only to see a pre-approval for a personal loan for $32k at 10.99% apr, which I also accepted.

These approvals will allow me to move all my revolving balances to 0% apr and I'll use the AmEx loan to help my significant other pay off high interest debt in the 20%-30% range.

This was a very successful app spree for me and now back to the garden.  I'm grateful for those that chimed in with assistance and grateful for the approvals.

Thanks for the tag, @jefree1, and I'm glad my reports have helped to build a road map for others to follow.   Also, congrats on your new approvals of NFCU $20K at 18.99% and Chase Freedom Unlimited $10K at 29.24%.   Yes, ouch on Chase APRs but low APR is not something the big banks offer except on promotions.  Low APRs are better with credit unions and typically no-reward cards.   The CFU is a great card and if you later decide to add the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Sapphire Preferred, the cash back can be transferred to those cards as Ultimate Rewards points for even greater value!  (In travel portal, CSP points are worth 1.25x and CSR points are 1.50x.) Also, either card will allow you transfer those points directly to any of the airline or hotel travel partners at potentially greater value. Smiley Very Happy  That makes the 1.5% cash back on CFU worth 2.25% in travel portal and up to 3% in travel value when transferred to partners!  Both CSP and CSR are great travel cards and depending on your lifestyle and travel patterns, you might get better value from them than from your AMEX Platinum.  (Platinum excels if you can redeem enough coupon-credits to offset the AF and if you purchase enough airfare or use Centurion lounges enough to make the high AF worthwhile.)

Yes, there is a "method" and strategy to cultivating a collection of cards that suits your needs and to increasing overall limits.  It requires some research and planning for the short, medium, and long terms.  That was the inspiration for my annual credit card goals thread.  (See "Setting Your >2024< Card Strategy.")   Likewise, sometimes we have cards that no longer fit us and we have to move along.  But I've hung onto some older cards with eventual product changes into more useful variations, so giving closures some time and thought is worthwhile!  (For example, my Capital one Savor One started as a Visa Platinum - before Quicksilver or Savor were around, and later became a Quicksilver and now Savor One;  and my Chase Freedom Unlimited started as a Slate before Freedom Unlimited was introduced but became a Freedom Unlimited over a dozen years later.)  Enjoy the journey!  Smiley Happy
