Re: Best amex to get !?

If you have a Hilton AMEX I assume you travel. If this is the case you should have an AMEX Platinum, if any portion of the travel is luxury travel it only becomes more essential.

This is really impossible to give a solid answer without more information. What benefits do you value? What is the goal? If you what a card with lots of travel benefits then the amex plat, but its not great to spend with. If you want a card for everyday spend and you value membership rewards points then the amex everyday preferred is good. The amex points with the most value would be from spend on the Amex SPG (if you stay with SPG or you use those airline partners).

Just curious, talking in the world of AMEX only, how is Plat a better travel card if the person already has Hilton AMEX (showing loyalty). Plat is 1 MR/dollar, correct? While Hilton points are far from being the most valuable, 12/dollar at the hotel is > 1 MR. If we expand a bit and assume we're talking charge card to charge card, how would PRG not be the best charge card for travel (yes I understand plat has a lot of memberships, but is YOUR cost more than $275 + missed MR by using plat and not PRG?). Also, value is only there if OP uses those built in values. Does someone truly need airline lounges for domestic flights? FWIW, Hilton gold is probably the best mid status in hotel chains, free breakfast is useful whether for business or leisure travel. Just my .02.

Current cards: MSUFCU Platinum, Amex PRG, Amex Surpass, Amex BCE, Citi Prestige, Citi Double Cash, Citi Premier, US Bank Cash +, Huntington Voice, AAviator, Sallie Mae, Discover IT, Chase Freedom TU:753 EQ Enhanced: 758

All good info here, what wasn't clear in the OP's OP is that he/she was trying to maximize points. Simply wanted to know what card offered the best benefits, at least that is how I read the post. If benefits are what you are looking for the AMEX Platinum offers value exceeding point earnings for spending. For example, I just got an AMEX Platinum and booked a 4 nights stay at a hotel where rooms are close to $400 dollars a night. I booked through fine hotels and resorts and received a third night free. In addition to that I get breakfast for my girlfriend and I at a 4 diamond restaurant each morning for free and $100 food and beverage credit. In this example I saved $389 for the one free night, $224 on breakfast (2 people, 4 mornings, $28 each breakfast/person), and $100 food and beverage credit. So my AMEX Platinum saved $713 on just this particular trip. That beats the hell out of any points earned on any travel card I have heard of.
