It may be because either you don't have enough credit history built up and/or they don't believe your income. I was denied for Amex last mo. Letter said "unable to verify income" I called them and offered to send in Pay checks or taxes and they said "Out system automatically knows where you work and how much you make" then I said "well it is wrong then and I am happy to prove it to be reconsidered" and was told..: our system is never wrong and you would not be reconsidered" ....
Needless to say I was pissed but they didn't believe me and they basically called me a liar.
Wait for the denial letter and see what it says. If it is not enough revolving debt experience there isn't much you can do... except maybe apply for 1 or 2 more easier approval cards or a good secured card like Discover possibly.... and build up some more history. Odd thing is your FICO is high for only having one revolving account with a 1k limit. This is a real FICO? Not like Credit Karma?
Either way wait to see why you were denied and then we can advise better. You always recon IMO, no matter what the reason. You already toon the credit pull.
One more thing... do you monitor your credit? Did you get an alert for a new INQ? If so I would suggest it.

Comenity does not recon. Amex sends out 4506T to verify income they do not have a system that tells them that. You may have gotten someone who just wanted to get you off the phone.
