BoA denied second app

Hi all

I applied for the Merrill+ Visa Signature a couple weeks ago. It was approved. Then I went ahead and applied for a BoA Cash Rewards card the same day hoping they would use the same hp. It was denied. Here is what I got as the denial reason in the letter I just received:

We could not approve your request because your credit references have not been established for a sufficient length of time and you have responded to an offer from us or one of our affiliates within the past 90 days.

Has anyone seen something like this from BoA? I thought they do approve more than one credit card in one day. Don't they?

As far as I know they use the same hp for 30 days. Should I call and reapply on the phone?

btw EX score is 730 and I've had checking and savings accounts with BoA for more than 6 years.

That's odd for sure. I applied for two card with Boa on the same day. Both went to pending. I called their credit team right away and was able to get them approved.

Are you saying that you applied for Merrill and Cash Rewards on the same day but Merrill was approved and Cash Rewards was denied right away? I also agree with you that most datapoints I see is that they can approve multiple cards on the same day.

Have you had previous Boa cards? Perhaps you are at their max credit limit allocated?

I dont think you need to reapply again. Just call their credit team and have them reconsider this denied application. Explain what you just told us... why you need the card and you have been a banking cusomter for more than 6 years etc etc. Just keep calling until you get it reconsidered. I do not think it's hard with Boa. The worse situation is that you could try to offer splitting some limit from Merrill to get Cash rewards open if they keep telling you no.

Re: BoA denied second app

Thanks csryang.

I applied for Merrill and Cash Rewards on the same day. Merrill which was the first app went pending. Cash Rewards was instantly denied. I called the next day, answered a few questions and then I was told that Merrill was approved.

I waited for the denial letter for the Cash Rewards card to see the reason which came out to be the weired one I wrote above. I don't think they denied due to max credit exposure, because the letter does not indicate any other reason and doesn't even include the credit score they pulled!

I had a BoA credit card but it was closed about two years ago.

That's very weird for sure. Yeah I would still recommend you call them and have your application reconsidered-- it seems that you have a pretty strong case.

Re: BoA denied second app

They are basically saying they aren't comfortable extending another card at this time. You can try and recon and they may be able to let you shuffle limits to get the other card approved.

Where did you call the next day and answered those questions?
