Wanted to get one new card before I went to Garden. Are there any cards that are not as sensative to new accounts and inquires besides Capital One and Synchrony? I tried American Express with a Exp Fico 8 of 652 , but I had 16 inquires and 6 new accounts in the past 4 months. I have 3 Store cards (Lowes $17,000)(Belk $5000) (PayPal$2000)and 3 Cap One Cards (Venture $5000)(Secured $200)(QS1 $500). UTI is at 3%. Just sort of wanted to get in with another bank before I take a year of letting my credit build and try to get a house.
You can try the Citi Prequalification tool. If that comes up with one APR (even the highest APR) on a card recommendation, then it's a good indication a basic card could be approved. If only a range comes up, then it's much less reliable and likely not worth trying.
If you just want to establish a CC to include in building your history, then the State Department FCU Secured CC is a sure thing. Opening the SDFCU Savings account is no HP (PenFed requires a HP) and you then fund the savings account with $250 or more. Then apply for the SDFCU Secured VISA, the savings is the security, they don't do a HP, and the card is issued. You can then use that card, it reports just like a regular CC, and a year from now, there's another 12 months of history on your file. If you want to raise the CL, just add more funds to the savings account. The card has no AF, no FTF, no BT Fee, and a low APR if you want to borrow back against it. I got one a few months ago ![]()
