If I was denied a CLI by say, AMEX, would there be any point in applying for a second card?
What is the current CL of the card you are trying to get an increase on and how long have you had it? Any other cards? Scores? You may be denied a CLI and approved for another card though, all depends on alot of factors.
I have an AMEX ED card with only a $1000 limit. Balance is high which is why I wanted an increase in credit--so my utilization would go down. I've had for 6 months and CLI attempts have been denied. Never been late, nothing derogatory on my CR. EX is at 660, TU is 642 EQ 650

Pay down the balance so it provides a better outcome. Otherwise, what you're suggesting is more of a band-aid to the utilization inssue. Generally, if you are close to max (since AmEx didn't budge on the CLI), it's doubtful you'd get more given the age of the account + whatever other factors are impacting your scores/profile.

My ED card is the same limit. I got it 9 months ago; I think that since my profile was poor when I applied that I will be in toy limit hell with that card. I've gotten other cards with better starting limits since then, and I carry a zero balance on the card, so I've accepted that this card won't go anywhere
I would not apply. What was your Ex score when approved? With a score under 700, Am Ex sees you as a borderline credit risk and declines are more common.
Work at getting your score into the 700+ bucket before you apply.

It is your score. You are getting close, they like 700+ scores. If your last sp was below 700 and you go for a cli, there is a high likelihood of being declined.
