My wife has a Well Fargo Propel AmEx card that just had a statement close and we were considering a CLI, but we were wondering if it would affect her application for the Wells Fargo Active Cash (2%) card.
Would applying for a CLI help her application if she gets approved because of the higher credit limit? (this limit would not have time to make it to her report though)
Would waiting for the CLI help her application?
Since the Propel is very rarely used, I am not even 100% sure they'll approve the CLI
I have a feeling they'd either be unrelated, or if anything, the CLI might harm the new app. WF will likely have some form of max exposure they'll lend based on DW's profile. If she gets an increase on the Propel, it may come at the expense of some of the SL on the new card. Since her Propel is rarely used, I'd skip the CLI request at least until the new card is approved.
I'm gonna lean towards this assumption as it seems that WF hands out pawltry limits anyways and that by asking for a CLI on one card, it might get them closer to the maximum limit that WF wants to lend.
I am leaning towards waiting for approval before requesting any CLIs. Her Discover has a $780 ish balance, so she is requesting a mid cycle update again once the current transaction settles for the best score when she applies. That will also show the latest CLI. Any other toughts are welcome.
Propel holder and opened a Visa Sig earlier this month. I called to recon the SL and they offered to move some over from the propel, but said they wanted to see use first. They also said that they take into consideration the total limits across their cards when making such decisions. You could take the CLI now and offer to move some over later for the active cash. I would still wait until after to be safe.
