Cap 1 Platinum Offer

I've been in the process of rebuilding for a couple years now.  I first tried a FirstProgress secured card and after a year of it never reporting all my timely payments, i finally cancelled it (still hasnt shown up on any reports!).   I switched to a Captial One secured card about 9 months ago ($200 limit) and have been keeping it under 30% with on time payments.

My score is slowly growing and I received a pre-approved offer last week from Walmart/Snychrony and opened a new card with a $600 limit.  I was overjoyed, as this was the first unsolicited pre-approval i've ever had and is quite the milestone!  This new trade line hit the reports 3 days ago, I havent even gotten the card in the mail yet.

Today I received a letter from Capital One for a Platinum card which states "We recently reviewed your credit information and designed an offer that we believe is the right one for you... right now."  "Don't wait - you're eligible for this offer" with a reservation # and Access code.   Also enclosed is a separate standard disclosure showing an APR (24.99%... high but im still rebuilding), no annual fee, etc.

Im excited that I recieved two of these in a week!  My rebuildling efforts are paying off (thanks mostly to this forum!)

Considering the brand new trade line (that hit the bureau probably after this offer was already in the mail), and that this doesn't state explicitly "pre-approved", what do y'all think my chances of approval are?

I'd rather not bother if there is a chance that I may get denied.  Im trying to be extra dilligent about my inquiries.

Re: Cap 1 Platinum Offer

there's always a denial chance in any app and they will pull all three bureaus once but you should get an approval. determine if it's worth it to you for your rebuilding process but the approval is likely.

Re: Cap 1 Platinum Offer

Cap1 is pretty reliable.  There's always a chance you won't receive an approval, but your odds are pretty good considering you received that.  If you want to double-check, go to their pre-qual site on their website.  If the Platinum shows up there,  you're probably pretty solid.

With your scores (if they are FICO8's and not FAKO's) you would qualify for both the QS1 & Plat. cards.Go to the pre-qual site https://findmycard.capitalone.com/en/PageVersions/LandingPages/LP_ONE_V01.aspx and if they both come up then app for them back to back. You should get both CC's with 1 HP 9across all three bureaus).

Since you've been a member here for over 3yrs you should know how to do a good search so check out all the threads about the strategies for the 2 CC's. It is very cool what Cap1 has done and makes them the BEST (IMHO) for rebuilders like us. I have a baddie with them form several yrs ago and they still gave me both accts and put me in the STEPS program to grow them.

I think you should apply and you'll get approved. And when you do, then garden for awhile.... resisting any further temptations, and letting your scores grow.

And of course, after you apply, come back and tell us how you made out.

Good for you!! Can't wait to get my first pre-approved mail offer. Or a card that doesn't have a CL of $300...patience is a virtue Smiley Happy

Re: Cap 1 Platinum Offer

Well, I wasn't "pre-approved" after all.  I did the online application and got an instant denial.  It doesn't seem to have resulted in a hard pull on any report though, so I guess thats the silver lining!  Thats really what I was afraid of, so I guess i'll keep on keeping on with my secured card and watch my score build up!

In other news, since that "pre-approved" offer a few weeks ago, I have gotten at least 5 other letters from capital one, one "pre-approved" as before and todays was another "weve reviewed your credit information and designed an offer we believe is right for you..."  These will go in the garbage for the next few months, fool me once!

Re: Cap 1 Platinum Offer

Great attitude, you will get there! That Walmart card will be very good to you and will lead to other offers down the road.

Good Luck to you.

Re: Cap 1 Platinum Offer

Plus, more than likely, you can call CS in a month or two...and get the limit raised substantially
