Re: Cap One Recon after BK Discharge

I had a denial a year ago. Emailed the EO. Turned into an approval. YMMV
NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.

I should add (can't edit the post because I'm on my phone) that I had a secured card with them for 18 months with a perfect payment history, as well as a (then) 2 year old auto loan with no lates. Apples for an unsecured card and was denied. Emailed EO, and they called me back within 2 business days. Had a nice talk with them about my reports, and recent payment history, and was approved within a few days for a $500 QS1, went to $1.5k in 3 months and $2k at 6 months. The ONLY reason that I still have the card is that they have been more than fair with me overall.

Re: Cap One Recon after BK Discharge

Got my Chp. 7 discharge last month. Applied for the cap one platinum and credit one visa on the same day, scores were real low and I included high balance cap one in BK so figured they would deny. They did but credit one approved (of course). C1 sent me a letter asking me to send any additional information if I would like them to reconsider. So I replied with my own letter explaining why I had to file bankruptcy and that my payment history for the years prior to filing was excellent. Just got an e-mail today saying my new card was shipped. Does not give any other information about limit or anything, (I'm sure it's probably low) but it's an unsecured card, so I can cancel the credit one when it gets here, since I really didn't want it anyway!

They did not pull my credit with the first denial, probably on auto deny cause the bankruptcy info. EQ, TU, and EX are all reporting a hard pull from them a few days before I got the e-mail.

So long story short, a month out of BK and with them included, they did recon.

I would say to keep the Credit One reporting until your next AF hits. No reason to close it right away if you aren't paying fees.

Re: Cap One Recon after BK Discharge

The Credit One card has an annual fee of 75$ but I don't think they charge that until the card is activated or you have had it for a certain period. I will read the papers when they come in to see how long I have.

First of all, congratulations on both a great recon, and sharing a great and timely data point!

I have a friend that just got a Credit One, and it seems the $75 came on the first bill($25 minimum payment), so you were likely right about after activation.   You may wish to consider if having an extra card open for a year may be worth the $75, as it would put you closer to the optimal amount of cards, as well as giving you a larger total credit line.
