CapOne Venture

I am thinking about applying for the Capital One Venture card. Is it still the case the they pull all three CBs? I think I can freeze my Experian CR, should I do it?

Re: CapOne Venture

They'll pull all 3. If you lock/freeze EX, you might get a denial and 2 hard inquiries as a parting gift.

Re: CapOne Venture

Op, cap1 is notorious for 3 hp’s I agree that if you freeze one cb you’ll probably get a 2 hp parting gift with that denial and even if you’re approved they can soft pull all 3 of the cb’s so if there’s anything you don’t want them to see, once an approval happens no worries..... they will.

Another thing is it’s not within guidelines to talk about freezing reports in the forums for apping purposes- I’m not sure how this applies to cap1 since they do pull all 3 normally. It’d be best if you just let them pull all 3 and if you get a denial then work on your rejection reasons, assuming you don’t already know what they might be...

Re: CapOne Venture

It's not like I don't want them to see something, I just don't want the 3 pulls just for one cc. Also, I am not sure what you mean about the guidelines. Long story short, has freezing one's CR been a reason for denial for other people? If yes, then I just have to decide if the 50,000 point bonus is worth the triple pull or not.

Re: CapOne Venture

I’m not sure with cap1 when I had them I took the 3 hp but hey it’s your report. Would you want to risk a denial and 2 hard pulls or an approval for 3 hard pulls?

It’s against the rules to talk about freezing a report to keep potential creditors from pulling a report. It’s somewhere in the guidelines and I’m sure a more experienced member can and probably will explain it.

Yes, there has been denials due to freezing a CR.  There are also success stories.  It is kind of random.

Last month my husband applied for Venture using a targeted 60k offer with Experian frozen.  The application went into pending so he unfroze Experian and called Cap One.  He was approved but didn’t escape the 3 HPs.

I think it might not hurt to try with Experian frozen but be prepared to call immediately to rescue your app if you don’t have an instant approval.

Freezing ones report to purposely  avoid a credit pull falls under the TOS.

Cap one pulls all three, it is a well known fact so if you don't want all 3 pulled you might want to apply with a another creditor. That's one of the reasons I am not a big fan of CO.

Re: CapOne Venture

Thanks for the input. I think I'll just go for it without freezing. I think it's really stupid to pull three reports for just one card, and I dont know why they're doing it, but I haven't had any inquiries in well over a year, so I'll probably just bite the bullet.

Re: CapOne Venture

If I recall correctly from reading previous threads either intentionally or unintentionally with 1 bureau inaccessible:

Unicorn scenario, which I won't mention in detail.

Scenario as mentioned above in post 2. Denial, 2 hard pulls. You call to recon. Csr ask you to unlock/thaw and resubmit the application.

Best case scenario, they pull the missing bureau and you get approved.

Worse case scenario, they pull all 3B. Thus, 5 hard pulls total and you get approved.

Even worse case scenario, 5 hard pulls and a denial.

Re: CapOne Venture

It’s up to you to compare Venture to other travel cards that require single or double pulls, and decide whether that card is special enough to warrant 1-2 extra pulls to get over the other cards. If it is, then take the 3-pull. That’s their rules for their card and if you want it, you play by their rules rather than trying to skirt around them. With a triple pull though, I wouldn’t app for anything with them without a preapproval. No way I’d want to try for a card on a lark without knowing they already like my profile.
