Does anyone if Capital One will counter if you app for a specific card and don't qualify?
For example, if I app for a regular QS and they deem me not worthy, are they likely to counter and say I'm qualified for QS1 or Platinum? I'm sure this is a YMMV type situation, but I'd like to get a CO card in the wallet and want to make sure I don't waste a HP.
I don't have any pre-qualified on their site...never have. My scores are currently EX 669, TU 666 and EQ 668. Oldest account is 14 years and average is 7.1. Have mulitiple old negatives in my file from defaulted student loans, but they have all been paid in full and I have NO outstanding debt. I do have a Chase Freedom $2k and am an AU on my wife's BOA Rewards $12.5k.
Mostly just wanting to make sure I app for the right card. Any input appreciated
Apply for Venture!
if denied, go right back and apply for venture one.
I was not pre-qual and got approved Venture One (I was shocked but happy)
just recently went back and applied for venture and was also approved... the venture CL is MUCH higher than all the others!
If you REALLY want QS then just apply for QS and if for some reason denied, go back and apply for QS1 but doubt you have any issues.
Thank you for the reply!
I hadn't even considered the Venture...figured it was out of my league still at this point!
If I did do the method you suggested above, whether it be Venture and then Venture 1, or QS and then QS1 if denied, would apping again after instant denial result in a brand new pull? Or is that a "maybe" type question?

most have reported that done same day they saw 1 set of HP's
a couple people reported that they took just 1 additional pull on 1 report on 2nd app but that was towards beginning... these days I have only heard 1 set of pulls.
this was case for my partner also (1 set of pulls)
In 2012 I applied for the Journey Visa. I received the 7-10 day message. I called in a few days later and received an approval message from the automated phone system.
The card that arrived was a Platinum MasterCard with a $19 annual fee. So they countered me and sent me what they thought I was suited for.
I do do not know if they do the same thing now.

About a month ago, I applied for the Journey and Quicksilver about an hour apart. At first it looked there had been a second pull, but it worked itself out within a few days and only amounted to the one set of hard pulls. In fact, I really only applied to the second card because there was almost no risk without an additional pull.

Just an FYI that Venture and Venture1 have the same UW criteria, so if denied for the Venture, do not apply for the V1 or regular QS, as they are all the same.
I've seen people with worse scores get approved for Venture and QS cards, but also people with higher scores get denied, so you are sort of on the edge.
that's not true... Venture One starts at like $2 or $3k and venture starts at $5k
