try the pre-approval links specifically for savor/savor one/venture, you can find them on the specific card pages themselves, not just the generic pre-approval link
they seem to produce better results than the generic one that loves to give the secured card.

100% agree with just putting on P2 and adding yourself though
with your venture-x pre-approval denial though, I'm expecting you see this:

@GZG Thank you for the links, tips and suggestions! If I end up going for it I will more than likely apply with my wife's approval through her info. She's been with them for 12 years as a primary card holder. I've been with them 12 years also but always as an authorized user. Thank you again for the info!

@Jordan23ww wrote:I have been contemplating adding the Capital One Venture X card. My wife has a Quicksilver card and when I did the pre-approval form they said that she was pre-approved for the Venture X. I decided to check my pre-approvals too to see what they said. Now I am already very familiar with Capital One because we have been dealing with them for 12 plus years. I knew that they were not a fan of people with a lot of open revolving accounts and with me having 27 accounts, I went into the pre-approval anticipating my chances might not be favorable. What I didn't expect though was the card, yes 1 card they said I am eligible for!
They told me I was eligible for the secured Quicksilver card! With scores in the 700's and 800's, card utilization lower than 1% and 27 cards all reporting on time payments, no late payments and a credit history that extends back 18+ years, that was the only option. It made me literally shake my head and laugh! Needless to say I will not be applying for the secured Quicksilver or the Venture X on my profile. I'm already an authorized user on my wife's Quicksilver card and we've been trying to product change that to a Savor One for 2 years but it hasn't been an option, so I don't need a duplicate of that card. Not sure yet if I will apply on my wife's behalf. Will need to discuss that with her. Figured I'd just share this as a data point!
For the pre-approval tool there was an option to get pre-approved for any of the Quicksilver, Savor, and Platinum cards along with the Venture and Venture One cards. That's what I did initially where I received the Quicksilver card offer. Then I went to the Venture X card and there was an option there to see if you're pre-approved for that card specifically. That's how I got the reason for my denial, which was too many open revolving accounts.
Dont worry too much they do that **bleep** all the time. Its just Cap 1 being Cap 1. They do like thinner profiles though. My DW got a little over a month or so ago got the Venture card with a starting SL of 10K and I was messing around this morning with the limit increase button and got her a 5k increase! The card is not even 2 months old. I didnt even know they did that. So with them you just never know.
Cap 1 is funny like that bc I was able to get a 1K increase(so request) on my card a month after opening it last June. Not sure what there rhyme or reason is. I barely used the card once then
@CreditCuriosity wrote:That is their way of saying you have too many inquiries/new accounts and thanks but no thanks to you.. go a year without a new card/inquiry and that will likely change
Yep, this has been my experience as well.
While I've not tried in a while, I suspect if I were to give the prequal a 'whirl it would similarly offer me nothing but the secured cards as well. I did notice a couple of years ago when I was strategically gardening for the Chase Freedom Flex that once I was under 5/24 I suddenly had prequal offers with Capital One. I'm not saying Capital One has a firm 5/24, but their prequal tool seems to have something at least similar.
In my case I admit it's rather humbling to have some pretty good cards while at the same time not being able to qualify for a Walmart card, but that's just how it goes sometimes, haha.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
