Capital One pre approval

I have noticed that capital one allows you to see if you will qualify for up to 3 different cards wiry a soft inquiry. Why are the only cards they offer a pre approval application for are the quicksilver one, platinum mastercard, and their secured card? It seems it only allows you to do this with their subprime cards.

Re: Capital One pre approval

That's what they decided to do. They gave no reason for changing to this.

Re: Capital One pre approval

I noticed this as well when I was seriously considering a Capital One card, which was not one of the three listed. As previously mentioned, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for the three they chose.

Re: Capital One pre approval

They only prequal for their lower-tier cards. They see the Venture and Savor variants as top-tier cards (an opinion some of us don't share), and for whatever reason won't allow one to prequal them. They expect you'll be willing to take the triple HP on a cold app to get them. You do you, but I won't take a triple pull for any CapOne card going forward. It was the price to pay for the one I got when I started rebuilding, but one can definitely get past the need for it fairly easily with a little time and proper account management.

Re: Capital One pre approval

I'm not sure about anyone else but I frequently get spammed a preapproval in my email for some variation of the Venture & Savor and it also shows up in my account when I log in.  If you look at Creditwise, offers can appear there also.  It's a horrible APR and I will never apply for it so I never really cared if it was marketing or not.

Is there a chance that these cards and preapproved offers are reserved for current customers?  Perhaps that may be a reason why people can't prequal for them?

Started getting these same offers for the SavorOne, with the same lousy terms, beginning of the year (might've been late last year even). Ended up taking the bait for some reason, against all of my better judgment. Still had to fill out a full application, so it didn't feel quite as automatic as one of those Chase green/black star offers to me. Kind of wondered after the fact if I would've gotten the bonus offer and better APR on a cold app. Was already spending on another bonus anyway though, so I took the carrot they dangled in front of me at the time.
