So I actually was surprised to get an offer - other than auto refinancing - from CapitalOne. Not sure if they are offering me a chance to apply (which isn't much of an offer), or I'm pre-selected/pre-approved. Anyone seen one of these lately, and know what it actually means?
It's an invitation to apply with the offer presented, not pre-approved.
From my experience when they offer that in the app like that its a pretty solid offer. Its always a risk with the triple pull nonsense they do but while never guaranteed I would say you are 70% of the way there already. I had the same a couple years ago and got it so never hurts to try if thats the route you want to take.
I hate the triple pull, and with low starting limits and few CLI's - I've been with them since 2008 - I think I'm going to take a hard pass.

While I've never personally experienced it, I don't think the OP's post is a true pre approval. It looks more like an invitation to apply, especially since it has an APR range, not a fixed one.

I was thinking the same due to the range....great call out.
I agree,
A triple pull = deal killer
Update: I got an email invitation as well, saying that since I'm such a good customer...blah blah blah...and it linked out to the offer, which had 3 different interest rates (dependent on my credit). So it looks like a soft offer and not pre-approved (but I'd likely get it). Their rates are awful high, so I'm not interested.
Question - are CapOne rates ever competitive? I have a card of theirs that I opened in 2008, and the rate is 8.49%, which is awesome, but they won't ever let me do a CLI on it (because of the rate, I suspect). They'd rather give me another card at a much higher rate.
