Chances of CSP

I saw another thread that was basically done so I didn't want to highjack it.

In short, I want the CSP and Freedom. I've been rebuilding. My two worst baddies are two charge offs, which are both CCs. One was paid for less than owed and one never paid. They both fall off this time next year. My scores are in sig. I've had the three cards in my sig for about 5 months now, PIF..utilization below 9% total.

My question is do you guys think I stand a chance at the CSP? Do I really have to wait for my two charge offs to fall of 12 months from now to stand a chance? I'm not pre qualified by their site. I was denied for the Discover IT yesterday after responding to a mailer invite.

I'd hate to wait b/c I have a lot of travel coming up and wanting to maximize points. Should I give it a shot? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Chances of CSP

Hello again Smiley Happy So as far as the CSP, I don't know. I'm a big chicken when it comes to app'ing when I'm not pre-qualified, and Chase's pre-qualifier is pretty solid. Does the Freedom come up for you? I know that for me, I was pre-qualified for all 3 of their cards, but just app'd for the Freedom and was instantly approved. At that time I had 2 unpaid collections showing and several late pays that were about a year old at that time (one being a 120+ late). So I would say that if you're pre-qualified for the Freedom and you don't have more than 5 new cards in the past 2 years, then you have a good chance at approval. FWIW, I got lucky and got my Freedom before their new policy of no more than 5 cards in 2 years kicked in.

Re: Chances of CSP

Also, I do have a current balance with them that is most of my limit for the Amazon Chase card. Should I pay it down to zero if I were to apply (if there is an okay chance of approval)?

Nothing pops up. I'm sick of waiting. lol. I have three new cards so far. That means if I want the Freedom and CSP that I should get those two cards before getting any other cards? I honestly want the CSP first. I want to wait for the $200 bonus to come back before getting the freedom. I already have my foot in the door with Chase with the Amazon card that I've PIF'd for the past 5 months. Do you think I should wait for the 6 month card before giving it a try?

How high is the balance? Honestly, I don't know that Chase is strict about having no balances (don't quote me though). I didn't have any other Chase cards when I app'd, but I did have balances on my other cards at the time, and one was over 60% (I was taking advantage of a 0% APR offer). So I'm not sure the balance would matter too much, but it depends on how high the balance is. If it's over 50%, then I would say get it down before app'ing.

If nothing pops up I think it's because you recently got the Amazon card. I don't get anything on the pre-qualifier now either ever since I got approved for the Freedom. If you read what it says on the page, it says they couldn't find an offer cause either you opted out or because you recently accepted another offer from them. So with that said, if you really want that CSP, just go for it. Others have had luck being approved without being pre-qualified by them, so there's always a chance.

I guess the other issue is if I some how get approved I'll probably be stuck with a minimal limit of $5k...and Chase is notoriously horrible with CLI. Do you agree?

Also, I guess if I'm not approved it will affirm that I need to wait a few more months? Given the new 5 card per 2 years, I have 3 so far. So I need to get the CSP and Freedom before any other new cards. I'm kind of happy now that I was denied the Discover. lol.

Well if they do approve you and only give you a 5k SL, you could always move your Amazon line over to the CSP later down the road if you wanted to. And yes, if the CSP and Freedom are the main cards you want, do not apply for anything else until you get them, because once you hit 5 cards, you'll have to wait 2 years to get a Chase card (not their co-branded cards, just their main ones).

And FWIW, I was denied by Discover with the same scores and CRs that I had when Chase approved, so don't let Discover's denial sway your decision as to whether or not to app for a Chase card.

Thanks. Your advice has been very helpful. Even if by chance I'm denied. I won't be upset...feel level headed going into this app. My Amazon Chase is at 1600/2000 balance, but I just made a $450 payment today. I'll PIF before statement closes on the 19th of this month. Think it's still cool to app CSP given my balance?

I would just hold off a bit and try to get your score up, EX and EQ since they tend to pull these for the CSP. Most approvals that I have seen are in the mid 700 range and some in the higher 600s. Check the prequal site and see if anything comes up.
