Chances of approval with Navy Federal.

Hello all I'm new to the forums! And just wanted to know if anyone can enlighten me on the credit requirements to obtain a credit card with Navy Federal. I've been banking with them for a few months now with direct deposit. I applied for 3 credit cards and a cloc and was declined. Reconned and still was denied due to limited credit experience. Since I applied in October, I've gotten a cap one and first premier credit card both $300 credit limits and an installment loan for $200 with fingerhut. I paid on fingerhut for 4 months then paid it off and was upgraded to the revolving account with $400 but it shows as new account on report. I also opened a Walmart and Amazon card in December. Amazon$400 limit and walmart started as $500 but increased to 3500 last month. No balances on any card except first premier for $8. I have deferred student loans totaling 19000. On my TransUnion report, auto loan showing as "paid by dealer" 0 balance. It broke down the first month I bought it so I surrendered it. ( I know right) but shows up 30 days past due. Also showing up on tr and Eq is paid co for $927 from 2012. 14 inquiries on tr and 9 on Eq. Aaoa 1.5. ( thin file) TR score 679. Eq (656). Chances of approvals? Any suggestions?

Re: Chances of approval with Navy Federal.

You're ok with the cards you have now. I would continue to use them and pay in full and try again with Navy Fed in October. This is just IMO and what i would do to increase my chances.

I agree; you got a lot since applying the first time with them.
Give 6 months or so of working with you have before applying again

Re: Chances of approval with Navy Federal.

Thanks! I agree. I reapplied anyway lol( I so need to work on my patience)...of course I was denied again but really wanted to know the reasons for my denial immediately rather than waiting for them to come in the mail. I reconned and was denied and was given denial reasons through secured message( Want to work on them asap). Denied due to limited credit experience, too many inquiries, rations of accounts opened in 24 months, utilization of bank cards. I paid my Walmart card to 0 balance but for some reason it's reporting a balance of $1000 out of 3500. I'm assuming I had pending transactions that posted after my statement cut😖😩. Then Walmart increased it to 5000 and Amazon was increased to 6000 credit limits. Two questions. As I mentioned I have 19000 in student loans ( deferred). If I made a large payment of 15000 or more, will that increase my chances of being approved for cloc? I'm not trying to rack up a bunch of debt because I don't need the money, just a better credit profile. Will my recent cli increases better my chances of reapplying next month when they report? I hear nfcu is very picky when it comes to utilization and DTI. Or maybe I should just work on the reasons for denial. Opinions needed please.

Re: Chances of approval with Navy Federal.

IMHO, same reply as earlier. Slow down and let these cards age. And were you thinking of applying to NFCU next month? I would give it, at least six months to a year before applying again. Every time you apply, they pull another credit report, so that is even more inquiries that they were denying you for. It takes a year for those to age off. And two years to completely fall off. I don't know if paying off deferred student loans would help since it wasn't one of the denial reasons. It might help in other ways however. If I were you, I would read more on the rebuilding forum and stay in the garden for a year. Good luck and hope to see you around!

Re: Chances of approval with Navy Federal.

It is so tempting to keep applying, but you are just hurting your future chances with HP. Please consider the advice in the thread and wait. It will happen eventually. Best of luck to you. Smiley Happy

I reconned and was denied and was given denial reasons through secured message( Want to work on them asap). Denied due to limited credit experience, too many inquiries, rations of accounts opened in 24 months, utilization of bank cards. As I mentioned I have 19000 in student loans ( deferred). If I made a large payment of 15000 or more, will that increase my chances of being approved for cloc - It can and can't, but it will look good on your profile showing less debt. I'm not trying to rack up a bunch of debt because I don't need the money, just a better credit profile. Will my recent cli increases better my chances of reapplying next month when they report - This will only help to MAYBE get a high CL from other lenders but not really for the approval itself. I hear nfcu is very picky when it comes to utilization and DTI. Or maybe I should just work on the reasons for denial. Opinions needed please.  We gave you advice and you disobeyed lol (jk).  Work with what you have, let all your cards report $0 balance except for one.  You need to have a laon on your profile, the student loans are helping so dont pay to $0, ok to make a $15k payment and pay the rest monthly 'til $0 balance.  Good luck Smiley Happy and stop applying lol

Re: Chances of approval with Navy Federal.

You have a nice mix of credit right now. I would just garden for 1 year since you have been apping. Just know Navy loves to pile on the hard pulls for each card(CLI's) and CLOC at every spree. Those can add up to a lot of INQ's. The garden thread is good and so is the rebuilder's one for information on how to work on your lates and other baddies. Its a marathon not a sprint.
