Late last year, *** ModCut, Not Here *** I started my own business as an independent contractor. Honestly, one of the best decisions I have made. I am making 3-4 times the amount of money I've been making working a 9-5. At the end of this year, I will be applying for the Blue Cash Preferred card. What are my chances of being approved for this card with self employed income? Will Amex hold that against me? All advice welcome! Thanks!
There are many instances where self-employed people have reported being approved by AMEX, so I wouldn't worry about it, assuming that you can provide proof of income if requested during the application / underwriting process.
Also, I've edited your comment above, please be mindful of the 5 things we don't talk about here at the forums.
I am self-employed and I was approved for the BCP in April. I got kind of a toy limit but I think that was likely because of the number of new accounts in the past year (5/12), and it's my first card with Amex.
Good luck!
Thanks! I have 3 recent inquiries from earlier this year. I was going to wait 6+ months before I pull the trigger. Sorry, for the inappropriate post.
I'm self employed and have several personal and buz cards with amex including BCE. My credit limits have grown with time, usage and payments.

No they won't hold that against you.
Additionally, it appears you already have the Gold card as an AU, so just state your income correctly and you're good (presuming that you have your own login, which means they checked you at some point). They won't ask deep dive source of income information at that stage.

And I did not have to provide any income proof/IRS docs, etc.
Thank you for the responses! Yes, I'm an AU on my wife's gold card and I have my own log in. I remember reading a few years back, that if you already have some type of relationship with Amex, it will be a little easier to get in with them.
