Hey guys, I was approved for a Chase Southwest premier card with an EQ fico of 776. I have more than 5/24 but it didn't hurt that approval. I applied for Chase Sapphire this morning and called the backdoor number.
The first weird thing is that I refreshed my monitoring twice... One right after the app and then just now after the phone call. I do not see a hard pull on any bureau. The only report unfrozen is EQ. I refreshed it again after the decline and still no inquiries?!! Who else could they have pulled
Second, re: the actual decline. I had a very stern lady who was straight to business. She came back after her review asking about a card from Pier 1 card from 1992 ... Lady I was a child! She proceeds to ream me about a bankruptcy (I have never been bankrupt!) that this alleged card from 1992 was included in. I figured she was getting ready to decline me anyway so i simply answered her questions briefly and stated I don't know about those items and reminded her of my age.
Then she went into how many accounts I had opened in the past 2 years *covers eyes*. Okay you do have me there. Checkmate.
So datapoint is that cobranded card maybe doesn't subscribe to 5/24 but pure chase cards do. AND they have a very long and inaccurate memory! I have never heard anyone bring any of those items up on a review of my credit. Still curious as to what bureau they pulled or database that is going back to 1992 and thus how can I fix it? Hopefully it will say on the decline letter.
Either way, I'm ok with the SW. Don't know why I tried to push the limit and app for another Chase card. I'm officially done and in the garden.
You didn't have an issue with Southwest because the cobranded cards are not, as of now, included in the 5/24 rule. You can still be declined for plain old "too many inquiries" ,etc, but it's not as stringent as the regular 5/24 yet.
The core Chase cards like Sapphire, Freedom, etc follow 5/24, hence your decline. Sorry to hear. If you really want this card, have to garden and wait until you'd pass 5/24.
The just declined me X2 for the same card (one on the original app, one on recon) and I am at 6 new accounts per the analyst. That was the cited reason for my decline. Thsi is for a Chase Co-brand United Explorer.

That's what I'm doing... got roughly 8 months to go.

Hey guys, I'm back. I got my denial letter for the Sapphire and consequently my new SW premier today. I was gonna let sleep dogs lie.... But per the denial letter my EQ score was 811!!!!
Of course it cites recently opened accounts and number of inquiries for the reason. But come on 811 fico. I'll probably never see that number again lol.
Should I try for recon or it's not worth it??
Is that their CARS score? You'd be spinning your wheels trying for another recon. Score is irrelevant to the denial.
