I think the pulls are a bit skewed there because most people won't apply for this card unless they meet at least some minimum guideline.

Huh?

Think of who might apply for a hotel specific reward card.

Yes, I concur with your assessment but, the scores certainly are diminished compared to other chase cards which suggests less stringent requirements. It is a curiosity.

Probably cause of a co-branded card and Marriott might be pushing Chase and possibly eating some of the losses if Chase takes a loss, meaning less strict lending requirements?  Might be the case on easier approvals?

That would be my guess as well BUT, we'll never be privy to the inner workings on how ANY company bases their decisions!

Re: Chase CCs?

I really doubt Marriott actually compensates Chase for losses due to charge-offs.

"Compensation" can take many forms and there may be poorly defined or unpublished relationships between board members of the various companies involved both direct and indirect.

I'm quite sure you're not naive enough to believe otherwise

Re: Chase CCs?

If I may ask, what was the denial reason given? I think that might lend to a little more precise advice for your situation.
As for the 'easiest' Chase cards, anecdotally there is plenty of feedback here that the Slate and Freedom cards are the easiest. Probably because they don't have a 5k min threshold.
Have you tried the Chase pre approval page. They seem to have fairly reliable pre-approval offers. I think if you are testing the waters, the pre approval page is a good jumping off point.

Let us know what comes of it. Best of luck!!
