I just apped for Freedom, Discover IT and AMEX Everyday Preferred. Reasons and Results as follows:
Freedom: to increase my UR points accounts on bonus categories. Denied due to "Too many credit cards opened in the last 2 years."
Discover IT: to diversify my credit card portfolio, decrease utilization overall. I'd read good things so decided to apply, wasn't instantly approved but asked to call to verify information. CSR was nice and asked a few questions about why i wanted the card and why I had so many inquiries and confirmed income. Informed me of approval with $2500 CL. Not terrible not awesome.
AMEX EDP: increased MR points earning for categories I spend a lot in, fuel and groceris. Instant approval for $7500 CL.
After all of this, I had really wanted to app for the Ritz Carlton card through Chase for a couple of reasons but thought that I'd be more likely to get the Freedom as it seems to be a lower tier card to me. I apped and was approved for CSP and MileagePlus Explorer last November with the CLs listed below. How long should I wait to app for the Ritz card? Should I even bother calling to try to get approval for the Freedom card? I also bank at chase both personally and with 2 businesses that I own, if that even matters to them.
This new Chase thing is really bizarre! I have 6 new accounts this year and a slew of inquiries...three of my new cards are Chase and the latest is listed in my signature. I would app for the RC since its co-branded if you can afford the inquiry because it seems like their flagship cards are the ones with restrictions. I got the CSP in March, AARP in April and IHG in May. Good luck to you!
msbia, thanks for the advice! I too find their new approvals process bizarre, I put the majority of my spend through their cards and have my AMEX cards more for the perks they provide and always PIF, with the exception of two times where I split the payment for some large expenses. I must say, I'm loving AMEX more and more these days.
I'm a little put off by Chase. I don't understand how they come up with some of their decisions. My home is financed through them and I had a vehicle and CC through them.
They gave me one of the lowest CLs of the 8 cards I recently app for. Needless to say their cards won't get used very often! lol
ITA with Chase, I have a long-time checking account, a student loan (NEVER a late payment) and a Freedom through them, but I cannot get another card with them........Grrr...
congrats
