Chase FU approval odds

I am thinking about applying to the Chase FU. My goal would be to get the CSR but as I have a thin file for the moment, getting a third card with Chase could be useful, while letting my accounts grow.

I do not have any pre approval on the Chase website, so I'd like to know my odds (and I would prefer not to waste a HP) before applying :

Current CCs :

BoA Cash Rewards, 800$, 7mo

Amex BCP, 6k $, 3mo

No late payment, util <1%.

My credit scores are in the 700-730 range, with 1 to 2 inq depending on the bureau.

Have been banking with Chase for over a year, I plan to apply in a branch as I have heard that could help.

Applied for the CSP 4 months ago but was denied.

Re: Chase FU approval odds

I'm fairly certain Chase wants at least 1 year of credit history. Looks like your oldest account is only 7 months. I'd wait until at least this account is 12 months old.

I would wait until your oldest hit a year to be honest and make sure you still stay in their rule.

Alright, in that case, as my goal was to use the FU as a springboard to get the CSR later on, would it be a better move to get another third card from another lender and then apply to the CSR (with no previous chase cards) ? My main concern is that 2 cards would not be enough when applying for the CSR later down the road.

Re: Chase FU approval odds

It doesn't really matter.

I've seen people w/ 0 CC's other than an AU card get a 15K CSR and others with several cards still ge denied.

Just take your time and if the CSR is your goal then focus on that alone.  Work on your CLI's in the meantime since you'll need to potentially show at least a 10K CL before Chase will grant it or a 5K CL for the CSP.

Amex just make sure you ask for your 3X CLI @ 61 days and 181 days from that date.

BOA - you're able to SP CLI every 91 days for up to 3X your limit but, I just put in 100K on the form instead of doing the math and let it auto counter for the highest CLI they're willing to offer.

If you want to pick up a 3rd card then I would probably say Disco for the simplicity of 3% for the first year on the Miles card w/ no cap and it will also grow nicely w/ SP CLI's over time.

What was the reason for your denial previously?

Lack of credit history (which was predictable but at the time I was not aware of it).

You should be in great shape for a Freedom Unlimited with the two cards you have once the oldest reaches a year old.

Applying for another card in the meantime wouldn't likely better your chances. It could actually get in the way down the road if you approach or surpass 5/24.

I'd look apply for FU in five months, then apply for the CSP six months after that.

Lack of credit history means you have a low chance of being approve as not much has change. There's plenty of data points that they like to have a credit card with a year of history. It's not an official rule but you should still probably heed if they denied you for lack of credit history.

Re: Chase FU approval odds

Wait till you have reached the 1 year mark and make sure you’re under 5 new cards in 2 years. The only way around the 1 year mark and 5/24 is a pre qualify/approved offer from chase, it’ll have a solid apr and a green check mark or green star.
