Just got approved for $500 for the regular freedom. What doesn't make sense is i have close to 800 scores TU/EQ/EX, multiple cards with $20k limits, 80k+ income, no baddies and less that 5% util across my entire file. I do however have 2 other chase cards (amazon prime and CSR) with a combined limit of 28k.
Is this their way of sayinig I've reached their internal limit? I'm definitely going to call and recon tomorrow morning though I'm in disbelief and a little offended as I haven't had this type of a limit in 10 years lol.
Also, anyone know the best number for recon?
So I just called the recon line and the rep told me that the automated decision for the low SL was due to (not sure if this is verbatim) "balance spread across tradelines". Meaning that I have relatively small balance across all my accounts so apparently I don't need anymore than $500? I thought it was a joke as the rep reaffirmed my score is 807 but there's nothing that can be done with the SL once it has been assigned.
He mentioned I could apply for a CLI but would have to take another HP. Anyone think this would be worth it or should I simply move some CL from other accounts so the card is usable?
as per my experince with Chase, I would say no need to request for CLI as it won't be worth getting two more inquiries on credit reports and rather give some time show some relationship with Chase and it should automatically increase limit on your card within next 3 months.
remember Chase does 2 pulls on Credit report everytime.
Congrats for the new Card ![]()

As you originally suspected, my guess is that "balance spread across tradelines" means you've reached your internal "exposure" limit with Chase. They'll extend up to a certain amount of credit with them and no more--no matter how many of their cards you've got.
Last year, I applied for the Amazon Prime card and was originally denied. On recon they finally approved me for $10K on the strength of my relationship with Chase. But it was clear I'd reached the limit of credit they're willing to extend me.

Reallocate. You don't even need that large a limit on the Freedom anyways since it is a category card and rewards are capped every quarter.
