Chase Recon? Adivce?

Hey,

New member, but been reading endlessly.

A bit of a background, I moved from Canada about 6 months ago, and got a secured card shortly after that (wells fargo, $300).

Now I have a job and its been about 6 months so I have been applying for cards.

I applied for following cards so far:

AMEX Blue cash card: Did not get instant approval (was expecting it). I sent my paystubs and address verification and they are still reviewing it. Any advice on how confident I should be if I didnt get instant denial?

Discover Card: Approved with $1000 Credit limit

And now we come to Chase Freedom: I was denied for this (7-10 days) called and was told denied. I called once again for recon, I told the lady that even though my credit history is only 6 months I need a chance to start building my credit using an unsecured card, all my other habits with the secured cards have been perfect. She took more information from me, put me on hold and then still denied Smiley Sad

Should I try again? any thoughts? Also any other visa cards I should apply for?

I have had about 4 hard hits on EQ and TU. my score on both is around 670 right now.

Thanks for reading!

Re: Chase Recon? Adivce?

I would wait for the Amex app to processand garden for another 6 months rather than apply for any other cards. Although it might not seem like much, IMO you would have a significantly higher chance of getting approved with 1 year of history and your current cards.

Re: Chase Recon? Adivce?

If you had an amex in Canada you could do a global transfer based on your Canadian history. Otherwise, TD bank is able to pull Canadian credit history from Transunion Canada, or smaller banks near the Canadian border such as banner bank will also pull Canadian history.

Leverage your Canadian history instead of starting from scratch in the US. I have the latter two with a combined limit of over 10k... Without even an ssn

WOAH. How do i do this?? I did have amex in canada and I cancelled if before coming back. I would love to transfer my amex credit history over to USA, it would be such a great start.

Any info on this would be awesome!

Re: Chase Recon? Adivce?

Google amex global transfer. But generally, it requires an active card that's been open for six months which they will issue you a card of your choice in the US.

My sibling leveraged her Aeroplan amex and brought it to the UK where she instantly got a cashback AmEx with something like 3k GBP credit limit. Zero UK credit history.

Re: Chase Recon? Adivce?

Ah man should've kept my Amex open when I was there. I had it for years. I'll still Google. Thank you.

Re: Chase Recon? Adivce?

OP- if I were you, I would check the capitalone prequal site and see if they have any offers for you.

Chase usually wants to see a years worth of credit experience. You might have a good chance with the Amex, congrats on the Discover and Wells Fargo.

If you need to add one more card, try the capitalone otherwise try and let your profile age additional 6 months without taking on a lot of inquiries.

You would be surprised how much an additional 6 months can do for you when applying for credit cards.

Well with only 6 months history. i would not help to recon. of course you can call. but im curious if you even have a fico score at this point. or just some risk score? I could not get in with chase until over 18 months of history. But good luck anyway.

Re: Chase Recon? Adivce?

Thanks for all the advice. I really appreciate it. I will stand pat for now. Discover card is a good start and I am really hoping it I get in with Amex as I had it in Canada and loved it.
I'm tried recon and didn't work. Oh well. I applied after reading some success with 6 month credit history and decided to give it a shot.

Gonna wait till next summer and apply again and hopefully get it

Re: Chase Recon? Adivce?

IIRC, chase is pretty firm with 4+ hard inquires in a two year span in an automatic denial and no amount of recon will change that....unless it is a mistake on their end with the number of inquires.

This is something new they started this year at it applies to their big 3 (freedom, slate, and sapphire).
