Chase Sapphire Reserve, Stats and Advice

I got my CSP 1/20/2016 with a 15k limit.  Prior to that I had a Freedom from 6/1/2014.  Had I known the CSR was coming out I would have waited to apply for it instead of getting the CSP.  I'm over the chase limit of new cards, currently at 6/24 as I have gotten my Arrival 3/15, BCP 12/15, CSP 1/16, Discover 2/16, Cash+ 5/16 and Best Buy Citi 7/16.  My scores are currently EX 741 and TU 758.  I don't get a free FICO EQ but my FAKO is 744.

I was given the option to PC my Freedom to a CSR.  I didn't like that Idea as I wanted the CSR to replace the CSP.  I don't need both but I do want my Freedom.  I am seriously thinking about applying for the CSR and then cancelling my CSP at the end of 2016.  I'm not sure if I would even get approved.  I live in Minnesota so I do not have any Chase branches here.  I could apply for it in branch when I go to Denver in October.

Anyone else have any advise to get approved when you are over the 5/24 rule?  I'd like to take advantage of the 100,000 points offer and I want the 1.5% use of the points.  Plus the 3x points on travel and dinning will make it the go to card.

If youre over the 5/24 and you dont have a branch nearby to check for a preapproval then you're not going to get approved unless you're a Private Bank client which I assume you're not.  So you have only 2 choices, check in a branch when you can and hope that theyre still giving out preapprovals or wait until you're below 5/24

I was afraid of that.  I also have two accounts I never activated, one was a AMEX Everday card and the other was a US bank rewards card.  Both were counter offeres when I applied which I did not activate and then I cancelled both when I could get the card I wanted.  Will these also count against my 5/24?  IF so I have to wait 1.5 years.

They count if they show on your credit report regardless of whether you activated them or not.

Could possibly take the long way around. PC Freedom to CSR, then downgrade CSP to Freedom. I believe they will let you downgrade since your not moving up in annual fee. Is a lot of work to get back to point A, but if it works....

OP, I'll take advantage of the time gap -

American Express will not report until after 2nd statement. So if it's not shown on your report yet, go ahead and apply for the card that you really want!

You can even try AMEX and tell them that you had a change of heart and since the card is new and hasn't been reported if there's anyway they cancel the whole thing and delete the tradeline. Worth the shot.

Good luck! I did it for Fingerhut and they deleted the tradeline for me.

This is the second time today I read someone say the only way to be over the 5/24 is to be a CPC.  Where is this info coming from?

Re: Chase Sapphire Reserve, Stats and Advice

I'm in a similar situation. Have a Freedom and a CSP (which I opened less than a year ago).

I just PC my Freedom to CSR. When the 1 year marker come around, I'll try to change my CSP to the FU or something (even if that means going to Saphire then to FU). Then when I'm under the 5/24 rule (not for another 1+ assuming I no longer apply for more cards before then...), I'll PC the CSR to something else and then apply for it to get whatever the bonus is at the time.

Note: I don't value the Freedom THAT much to lose out on the $300 travel reimbursement the CSR offers.

Why would you PC the Freesom to a CSR? Don't you want the 100.000 UR points?

You prob missed it, but I mentioned I was over 5/24 so could not be approved for the CSR.
