Chase Sapphire Reserve rejection

I applied for a Chase Reserve credit card about a week ago, around the time that my 5/24 period would have expired. I received a letter in the mail today with a rejection because - “You already have a Chase Sapphire Preferred card.” Their recommendation was for me to “upgrade” that card to get the Chase Reserve, which of course will not grant me the 50K point bonus. Looks like they’re not entertaining any new cardholders with existing Sapphire Preferred accounts.

I might just call in to ask if I can be reconsidered.

Re: Chase Sapphire Reserve rejection

Recon will not do you any good. Chase changed the rules a few months ago to where each customer can only hold one Sapphire product at a time. So the rep was correct in that as long as you hold the CSP only way you can have the CSR is a PC.

Re: Chase Sapphire Reserve rejection

You can PC your CSP into Freedom or Freedom Unlimited (to save your URs).

31 days later you can apply for the CSR.

If you already got a Sapphire bonus in the past 24 months I think you are not eligible for another bonus.

I'm writing a calculator to help folks figure out when they can get the bonus, etc, but I don't have enough data points to validate it yet.

Re: Chase Sapphire Reserve rejection

Chase changed their policy on Sapphire cards recently in August. Just google "chase internal memo sapphire" and you'll find plenty of results.
