Hey guys I am interested in applying for the united explorer. I have a ch13 bk that is almost 3 years old and I've been on time with all my payments for like 5 years. I just recently ourchased a home which seemed to help my credit. My history with chase is a little bad but I am an authorized user for 2 years on chase marriot premier and it has been paid on time. My income is about 170k and my fico 8 scores is 685-700. Do I have a chance or does my Bk kill any chance of getting a chase card? Thanks in advance
Hi there!
I also have a discharged CH13 BK and I can tell you from personal experience that Chase hates any type of BK.
Doesn't matter if it's discharged or not. The computer will auto-decline your app. There have been some here in the fourms
that have successfully recon'd it, but prepare to do some begging.
Hi Benzo,
I was approved for the Explorer card 3 years post BK, which included them for over $100k in CC balances. They were firm with me on the 3 years, I applied at 2 years and 11 months and they told me to try again in 30 days. I have heard that they have loosened up a little more since, with establishment and experience. My scores were also in the 660's when I app'ed and got approved. if you really want to be sure try to see if you can increase the discover and barclay card above 5k. They really look at making decisions based on your existing experience with other lines of similar or higher limits. The explorer requires a $5k line. You have it on 2 but not the other two. I have about 10 cards all over 10k and they barely approved me on the override for $5k (but grew to over $20k in under a year).
I would say you have a chance. The app will probably auto decline due to BK and you will need to call in for them to recon it. That is your chance to smooth talk Chase and explain why you need the card. Please report back with the outcome and good luck!
Good advice in your thread. I was instantly denied when my Chapter 13 was showing, but you just never know. Good luck whatever you decide.

I was instant declined for Freedom, Freedom CLI and CSP. After recon I was approved for all three ![]()

Good point, Scupra. I did that before I joined the forum and became credit-wise. I never heard of recon then. lol
Thanks for all the info guys. It sounds like I will get auto declined and then I'll have to call. I want any of the chase cards so If I apply for one should I just do all at the same time so I can call them one time for all?
For me, I submitted the app online and called instantly.
My Marriott app came back pending, called the status line and the message was 7-10 days. I called in to recon and not a single question was asked about why I wanted the card, I was asked to explain the reasons surrounding my BK, my previous Chase CO, and what I've done to correct the issues. The lady was very nice, I gave her honest answers and turned my decline into a 5k approval. Just don't BS them and answer truthfully.
