Chase approvals

Received the 30 day msg when I applied online about 10 days ago for a Slate.  Called in a few days later, after a few verification questions, was approved.  Then today in my email I got the Marriot 100k bonus Chase offer to apply!  I so wanted that.  I called the credit analyst line right from the get go before applying.  The gentleman who answered said that applying for two cards within 30 days will sometimes cause it to just kick out a 30 day msg or an outright decline, but that I could call his dept back as they can over ride that.  Soooo....I did that.  I applied online, got the 30 day msg, called them back, and after a few questions and I offered to her that I had JUST applied and was approved for the Slate card, and had I known about the Marriot's bonus, I would have applied for that instead 10 days ago.  So she puts me on hold for what seemed like an eternity and comes back online and offered to me the following; she can close the Slate and turn it over to the Marriot if I'm ok with that.  I was approved for just $3k on the Slate, and the Marriot has a minimum of $5k credit line, so she'd give me $2k more by closing the Slate and opening the Marriot.  (Ftr, I got the new Slate cards in my mail today...they look so pretty...lol.).  I took that offer.  I get home and come here and I see some people might have waited the 30 days out and have both cards perhaps.  Slate has NO annual fee, Marriot has one but with a free night at Marriot, it becomes a wash.  Did I make a mistake by taking the offer or not waiting for 30 days to be up?

Re: Chase approvals

This is like comparing apples to oranges. If you needed to transfer a balance over to pay down debt then yes you made a mistake. If not then the Slate is not good for anything else. The Slate is good for balance transfer then PCing to another card when done. That Marriott offer is good.

Re: Chase approvals

Thank you for the reply.  I know they did another HP via Experian.  Will having them close that account before it ever got used, affect my credit or score?  If so, is that a short term hurt (less than 3 months) or what?
