If it's a pre-approval why not pull the trigger? Worst that can happen is a denial
I plan to next week. Wanted my payment to my chase amazon and two other cards to post then apply. So far its been nothing but thumbs up to give it a shot. My hesitation at first was thinking it was a long shot given my average scores and well over 5/24
Make sure to let us know how it goes! I have a feeling you'll have an approval thread going soon ![]()
I have a feeling the pre approval is coming from the Chase internal score (CARS) Seeing as I have the history with amazon prime card and a six month old checking account with a couple thousand sitting. But hey what do I know? Im just a rookie in the game lol
Over the past year or two there are some data points about having a high savings account balance at Chase and more frequent preapprovals showing up in-branch.
A neighbor of mine had ZERO in-branch preapprovals but he deposited a small lottery winning check into his Chase savings and a month or two later he had a ton of in-branch preapprovals because he forgot to transfer the money out. Could be anecdotal non-causation but I've seen it before.
I would transfer $15,000 into Chase savings if it didn't cost me a ton in lost interest over Alliant. 1.1% versus 0.01% or something. Adds up.

A while ago, I remember a former Chase branch manager mention the difference between an in-branch pre-approval and a pre-qual:
In-branch pre-approval:
Based on credit and/or deposit relationship. The deposit relationship isnt just about the amount of deposits but the transactions, useage, direct deposits, etc. This is how some customers can get pre-approvals for a CSP with no credit history or rebuilders can get a starter card etc.
Pre-Qual:
Are based on credit
Both can bypass the 5/24 and can get denied if your HP credit report dramatically changes from the soft pulls credit reports they have on you.

+1
Soooooo I went into the branch today to pull the trigger on my pre approvals. The application could not be completed as my equifax is on freeze due to the recent breach. I called recon while still in branch but they said I had to unfreeze equifax in order to move forward. I asked if they could pull TU or EX or evena double pull on those and they said they had to have EQ opened for them. ANyone have any experience? I really do not want to unfreeze EQ as its my lowest score. Both times I called the recon line they transferred me straight to lending so I hang up
Ok So Finally I can conclude this post ![]()
So I went the route of opening a case with the Chase credit Card service Executive office to see if they could pull another bureau. After two weeks I heard nothing so I got very impatient.
Yesterday I spent over an hour going through different departments in equifax to try to remove the Freeze and was finally able to do it. This morning I decided to just call straight in to lending services and tell them my EQ was now unfrozen. CSR put me on hold came back after 3 mins................ Appproved 5k SL. NOT A SINGLE QUESTION WAS ASKED!!!!!
Apparently my score was 657 not sure how thats possible but oh well
SO I guess In branch approvals are truly GOLDEN since I AM WAY WAY WAY over 5/24
I will start an approval post shortly but truly wanted to thank all of you that supported this adventure. Sometimes being impatient is good lol
