Citi AA possible with BK13?

Due to a job change LY, I’m now Exec Plat with AA. This the citi AA card would be of great value to me. I burned citi in BK. Next month will be 1 year post DC (but 6.5 years since filing). My TU is clean, hopefully with get an EE next month with EX and EQ will be clean in June. What Bureau does citi pull?

Has anyone successfully gotten a citi with a BK on their report? I get targeted offers for this card constantly but haven’t app’d because I’m nearly certain it’ll be a denial.

Barclays is on my list too but the last two times they’ve declined me for too many inquiries. Do I have to wait a couple/few more months.

Ideally I need one of these two cards by May for the bonus. Planning an international family trip in June and need all the miles I can get.

Re: Citi AA possible with BK13?

Here's a DP that may or may not apply to you

I filed bk7 in 2011. A week or so ago, I applied for my own Citi DC (I already have this card and Costco as AU), and I was automatically denied.

I called the recon line, and the woman I spoke to said it was because of the BK. I asked about a recon and she said she'd have to do another pull, but the results would be the same because a BK is an automatic denial. So I said, no thanks.

A couple of years ago, I went through the same. I called and the woman didn't care to hear me out. She just said to me, there won't be any reconsideration at this time, and kept repeating the same phrase no matter what I said.

This last time, I kept insisting because I've read many stories of people getting approved with a BK present, but not me. I did burn Citi in my BK, though.

Again, this may not be applicable to your situation, but maybe someone will share something else that I could also use to get in.

From what I've gathered here on the forums, you must be post BK seven years before, Citi will consider you for one of there cards.

I've seen some folks with BK get approved with Citi but I'm not sure they IIB Citi, that may be the difference.

Thanks...I guess I’ll wait till my CR is clear. Any idea which one they’ll pull for this card in Texas?

Citi is IIB in my BK7 dc in 01/2011. I app’d twice in 2016 with FICO8s in the

low 700s and both denied even recons are no go both claiming that my BK has to be 7 years post dc before I’m considered. So circled my calendar this month for my app. Just got an instant approval 2 weeks ago for the citi AAdvantage WEMC for $11K SL!

BK7 still reporting til 2021.

Oh and they double pulled me in TX as well EX and EQ.

Ugh! That’s quite annoying. My BK is from 03/2011. I wish I’d known this before wasting a pull. I could’ve waited a couple of weeks or even a month to apply. Oh well, live and learn.

@imaximous;

If you burned them then yeah 04/2018 should be your app date before their system can give you an instant approval (provided your profile warrants it). That’s the data I’ve gathered from their EO on my recons twice in 2016. But if you didn’t burn them then you can get in much sooner.

Knowing how inquiry and new accounts sensitive citi is, I fully prepared for my app this month with no inqs or new accts in the last 12 months just to be sure. And be on my the best FICO score given that I still have BK reporting.

I reckoned that my best chance is to let their system auto approve me rather than a manual review which can be a bit conservative.

Best of luck

Thanks for the data. Manual reviews with Citi are just painful. I can understand conservative, but it's like talking to an apathetic wall. I kept getting the same answer and no reasoning or explanation. So I just gave up instead of trying again with a different rep. My denial letter came with a 752 score, so I don't think that or my utilization at under 4% were the problem.

I'm going to wait for a while now because I got approved for a few cards very recently. Maybe by next year I'll give it another shot.

Congrats on your approval, btw.
