Citi AAdvantage Denial

Anyone have any idea how long one might be in the doghouse with Citi if they were included in a bankruptcy filing? The bankruptcy no longer shows on any of my credit reports but the reason for the Citi denial was because I had included them in the bankruptcy. Honestly, it’s been so long I don’t even recall when I filed. Has to be close to 20 yrs ago.

Re: Citi AAdvantage Denial

I filed in 2005 citi included. I was able to get the simplicty card 3 months ago, however I got denied for the AA card, reason cited "previous delinquency " with citibank.

I had included AA cards in BK, not sure if that makes a difference or not, hubby also included the same cards, can not get any citi cards, but got the cobranded Home depot, I was declined and cited the previous delinquency.

Clear as mud right😕

Re: Citi AAdvantage Denial

It really depends. Just like AMEX, Citi tends to have a long memory.

Unfortunately, there's no set time that anyone can provide to determine when you're off their blacklist, regardless of whether the BK or any IIB accounts are off your reports. How much was the loss?

20 yrs is a pretty long memory. Honestly I don’t remember the amount. Couldn’t have been too much, I don’t recall having a card with a SL more than maybe $2k

Re: Citi AAdvantage Denial

Did you IIB any other Citi CCs such as those held by affiliates? For instance, Macy's, Shell, Home Depot, Sears, AT&T Universal, etc.

Otherwise, do you currently have any other Citi (non legacy) CCs?

Yes, some banks have very long memories which include Chase and Barclays, especially if IIB. Some folks eventually fall off the naughty list over time.

Re: Citi AAdvantage Denial

I would see if you can call and recon why it was denied. If they cite that it's from a BK, then I would find out when it'll fall off consideration, if it's something else, you should know what it is. Sometimes, CC lenders don't give complete reasons for denials off the bat, gotta fish it out of them.

Re: Citi AAdvantage Denial

Well, I suppose it depends on whether you'd like for Citi to reconsider that decision. No guarantees, but worth a shot given the length of time you've been on the naughty list.

Although not enough data points exist to substantiate the alternate route to getting approvals with Citi legacy CCs, some folks have tried the Citi retail side with success and eventually over time opening those doors, but it's one of those YEMV kind of things.

Re: Citi AAdvantage Denial

Did Citi deny you without pulling your report or did they HP you first?
