Citi DC App and EO Recon denied.

They pulled Experian and my score was 743 on the day that I apped.  I had just apped and was approved for the Chase Amazon Visa and figured I'd go ahead and do the Double Cash app also like a little mini spree.

I was denied on the DC, and called one of the backdoor numbers from this forum.  The CSR said that she was trying to override the system, but it wouldn't let her give me a card no matter what she did.  She said it was due to negative information on my report.

I called the EO as a last resort, and they submitted a manual review request and they called me today to tell me that it was denied as well due to deliquent account information on my Experian report.

I looked at my Experian report and it looks like the last negative mark on my report is 1 year and 7 months ago.  My car loan was 30 days late a bunch of times, and 60 days late a couple times between 2014-2016, with the most recent being August of 2016.  I got behind and was paying the May bill in June, and that sort of thing.  I refinianced the car and haven't had any lates since then.  I also have some 30 day lates from 2015 on several credit cards, but those have all been on time since then.

I've had a history of being bad with credit, so I can understand getting turned down.  Since September of 2017, I've gotten six new cards and have adopted a "pay no interest" approach to credit.  I'm using credit cards to get cash back and not to finance things that I can't afford.  It's certainly a new approach for me, but my shift in thinking has really helped my credit score rise.  I want to get a 2% card because after my Discover card is a year old, I won't get the cash back match anymore and will need a new "everything else" card.

I'm just curious how long I should wait before trying for the DC again.  If I wait 6 months, then the newest baddie will be 2 years old at that point, but I'm not sure if that would be enough.  The people at Citi were very nice, but they said that they couldn't really tell me what to work on before apping again, only that I was welcome to reapply anytime and see what happens.

Congratulations on your new approval and your positive approach of using credit to work for you and not you working for credit! There are numerous 2% Cash Back cards on the market. Spend the next 6 months gardening, paying on time, and researching your next move. I was denied a Citi DC in May 2017, but approved in January 2018. Time does heal credit wounds. Keep us posted!

Thank you for the encouragment and the data point!  I'm suprised that you went from denied to a 7k+ approval (based on your sig) in such a short amount of time!  I do plan to garden for six months, which will be time for my Discover card to have it's birthday and stop giving the cash back match.  I have also looked at Blispay or Paypal's 2% card, but was planning on going with the Citi DC because it seemed like the price match feature was better than the features of either of those two cards.  If I get denied for DC again in six months, I'll likely go for the Paypal card which seems like it would be easier to get.

6 months will be good for you just dont app either. Citi is notorious for denting for having multiple hps in 6 months. Fyi, it is also possible to get a second year dcb from Discover. Ive started a thread so we can have more dp on it. Best of lucj on tour journeySmiley Happy
