Citi Double Cash Double Hard Inquiry Pull From Experian

Hi everyone.  My apologies in advance if this has already been asked.  I did a quick search but I didn't come across this same exact issue.  Anyhow, here is the story:

I received a letter from Citi recently letting me know I had been pre-selected to apply for the Citi Double Cash Mastercard.  I know pre-selected is not the same as pre-approved.  My credit is rebuilding and I have definitely made strides but I still have a ways to go.  I recently had a couple inquries for rate shoppping on auto refinance loans within the last few days.  Today I received the another letter from Citi in regards to the Citi Double Cash Mastercard.

I said what the heck, let me try and it did actually approve me for a small credit line to start out.  So far from what I can see they only pulled Experian (hopefully I don't see any Trans Union or Equifax hard inquiry pulls tomorrow).  The problem is that they pulled Experian twice so I now have two hard inquiry pulls from Experian for this credit card.

Has this ever happened to anyone?  If so, how can I get one of these inquries removed/deleted as I did not double click when I applied for the card and I have never seen this happen in my past credit applications/submissions.  I have a couple different credit monitoring services and they both confirmed that Experian was pulled twice.  Below is the same message I get for both from today.  Thanks in advance for your help with this.

CITI CARDS CBNA made a Bank / Credit Card Inquiry by checking your Experian Credit File. When you apply for credit, a "hard inquiry" may be placed on your Credit File and it stays on your report for 25 months.

You can call in and ask them to remove the second pull or have them recode it to a soft inquiry. If it was a system error, they should take care of it no problem.

Hi @Brian_Earl_Spilner, thanks for the message.  Would I be calling Experian or Citi?  Sorry if that's a dumb question but I didn't want to assume.  By the way, I love your forum name (it brings back fond memories of the original Fast and Furious).

You would call Citi because they are the ones who pulled your report. They would tell Experian to withdraw or to recode the 2nd hard pull.
