Citi Pre-Approval Pre Screen matches

Greetings

wife is wanting to apply for a 0% BT card and went to the Citi pre-approval/ pre-screen offer link. The message is "NAME we couldn't match you with any offers. See below for cards you may like"

Has anyone ever not gotten a match, applied anyway and got approved? Seems unlikely. Reports are not frozen etc.

Actually yes! I seem to be an edge case but you can look to my recent Citi Premier approval as evidence. I have checked Citi Preapproval page a couple of times and never got any matches. I did so the same day as my actual application, I just got impatient, applied anyway and then got approved (although I did need to call in to verify information which sped up the application).

I could not tell you for sure what will happen either way but getting approved is not impossible (I also don't have any reports frozen).

Yes, I'm one of those cases.  I had only a little over a year history and a single account at the time, tried prequals with FNBO, WF, Citi, Amex.  Only Amex had prequal offers, and the others did not, though I got many mailers from Citi prior.  I cold apped for the Citi DC anyway, and not only got it, but a fairly decent SL for a card known to have low SLs and a lower than average APR.

At least 7 or 8 months ago, I'd say Citi prequal is much stricter than their actual apps, and lack of prequal doesn't mean deny.
