Citi double cash denied

Applied last night and was denied due to not enough history, I got my first card a year ago so I'm guessing they require more than a year of history.

My current cards are a Wells Fargo card with a $2,000 limit, opened jointly in September 2014, and a Amex Delta Gold opened April 2015, limit is $5000.

Called recon twice, first time they said that they could not reconsider the application due to the short credit history, second time they said to call the number on the denial letter when it arrives as they will have more power to make a decision, any tips for what to say to them? I've never had a late payment and the utilixation on my Amex is about 8%, the Wells card has about 15% utiixation, so that should not be an issue.

I mostly want this card because I am going to be 19 years old this month, and would like to get some cards that I would keep open and never close, which would really help out my average age of acocunts later down the road.

Also my Experien FICO score is 737, which is the bureau that Citi pulled.

Sorry to hear about your denial, that is odd, I just got a Citi DC this month and I only have a year of history, I also got my first card in September of last year. How are your inquiries?

Re: Citi double cash denied

Just two inquiries, one from Wells last September and the other from amex this April.

Really thought I had a decent chance at this card, but I guess not. Maybe should have waited a few days, my amex is closing in a couple of days so that would have added another month of history.

Definitely recon and they will use same HP.  Also, you've had your WF for a year.  Have you requested a CLI?  They will try on a SP first and if no go, you can wait on the letter or call the credit dept and request a HP.  If you've used the card and they see that you need more than 2k they'll up it and they do do counter offers so shoot for 10k+ if you decide to try it.

Re: Citi double cash denied

I actually did do a CLI on the WF card last month, starting limit was $1200 and was increased by $800 for a total of $2000.

Was a huge hassle because it's a joint account though, they required the secondary account holder to sign a form and mail it back, then it took forever to process it because their service department was had over a week backlog on incoming mail. At least it got done without a hard pull but it took 3-4 weeks from the time I requested to when it was actually done, but thats another story.

I'll definitely be calling again, will probably try once tomorrow and if that doesn't work out I'll wait for the letter to come becuase one of the reps that I talked to today said that the number that would be on the denial letter would better be able to help me. And if that doesnt work out either I'll contact the exeuctive office as a last ditch effort, seems very hit and miss from what I've read, but it's worth a shot.

I'll be sure to keep the thread updated for anyone that's curious or may be in the same situation later on.

Re: Citi double cash denied

IMO that number on the letter is useless.  I had another Citi application months before I was finally approved.  When I got that first denial letter, I called that number on the letter and they basically said call the credit bureau to dispute info.  I was like the info is correct so there is nothing to dispute.  I had much better success with going the EO route for my second app and I had 20+ inquiries on EX then.  I say contact EO and not the number on the letter.  That will only get you to a csr most likely who will give you some BS reason.  Also, WF says you can try a CLI every 3-4 months but with the hassle they make you go through I don't know if that's worth the hassle.

I applied for the Citi Hilton and was denied due to inquiries.  I called the application status line and they were able to tell me I was denied due to inquiries and I asked if I could have it reconsidered and they said I needed to wait on the letter.  The letter won't be here until next week sometime.  I just called EO and they said they would have the application manually reviewed.  Now I may still get a denial, but I didn't need to wait on the letter.  I asked if they would take into consideration that I have the Double Cash and my other accounts which have been maintained superbly.  I had about 32 inquiries at time of application.  We'll see early next week.  I was told Tuesday would be the latest.

Re: Citi double cash denied

Well I called back the exeuective office this morning as they had still not called me back, they did not overturn the denial.

Oh well, I think I'll go for a Chase Freedom, they usually run the $200 offer twice a year from what I've read so I think I'll just wait for that offer to come back, hopefully in late October or November.

I probably won't reapply for the double cash for another year assuimg I can get the Freedom. And if I get denied the freedom its a good idea to wait anyways and let my history build, wouldnt be worth it to keep wasting hard pulls.
