Wanted to share what happen yesterday with citibank. I am a year and a half post bk7. Have a great rebuild going thus far. I have tried the home depot pre-qual site and to this date have had no luck with a pre-qual. Yesterday my daughter drove through a parking lot and blew out a tire. Long story short I needed to buy 4 new tires. I was tempted and applied for the good year card for the promotional financing and double rebate. The good year card is backed by citibank. After some research on myfico, I found they pull Equifax and that is was my strongest score. Currently Fico08 is 672 I applied and got the message we will get back to you in 2 weeks by mail. So I called the backdoor number to see if I actually had a shot at an approval. After all it was not a flat out denial. The rep was very nice a told me that I had been declined and I would recieve in the mail within 2 weeks the reasons. I told him I am sure the reason for the denial was my BK7. I asked him if the account could be manually looked at which he did esclate it to his supervisor. Again a hard NO. Citibank doesn't apporove applications with a BK for a period of time. The rep did not know the amount of time and told me if not for the BK, that with my score and profile I would have been approved. So those of us still rebuilding know that citibank thus for doesn't seem too BK friendly. Hope I help someone out there with the feedback and save you a HP!
Op, Sorry for your denial, especially at a time when you could have used it![]()
Sorry to hear it OP. Their core cards are known to be a no-go with a BK on file until 5 or 7 years out. Looks like the retail side must be similar.
BK must be their thing. I can tell you whats not tho....3 CO's that are 4 years old and an auto loan with 16 30-days lates. All paid in full and closed for at least 4 years.
Home Depot- Approved 6/29 for $500
TBH, I was in shock.
Sorry for the denial. DPs are always appreciated at least.
They will approve with BK just depends on time a file.

brad0502,
Sorry to hear about your denial. It's posiible to get Citi back retail cards after bankruptcy. You just need to give yourself some more time. After 3 years post bankruptcy, I was able to get approved for a Best Buy store card. Then after the 7 year mark, I got approved for a Macy's American Express. At the 8 year mark, I got a Costco Visa.

Ueah usually after 8 years Legacy can be achieved as Citi does forgive.....unlike Banco Popular🥶
Just for more data...I just applied for the Home Depot card. I am approximately 3 years post Chapter 7. I was approved. My EQ is 661. So I would say 3 years is probably safe to apply for a Citi store card.
