Closing in Sept, what cards will approve me??

Hello everyone,

I am set to close on a house mid Sept but I have just been browsing the different CC that are out there. My credit scores are EX 658 Trans 641 EQ 641 and could possibility go up a few more points before then. I  only have 2 CC and 1 Auto Loan. Any suggestions are welcome.

Captial One - Owe $80 - Credit Limit $500

Captial One - Owe $200 - Credit Limit $750

If you're set to close I don't know that I'd app for anything at this point. If you lose some points from the inquiries but don't pick them right back up or have stuff reort in time could be a problem.

Sorry, should have been more clear. I don't intend in applying for credit until I have the keys in my hand.

I am just looking at all the options out there.

Nothing worthwhile to be honest. What is holding your scores down currently?

Nothing is holding them down, I was around 580 a year ago and they have slowly been climbing back up after getting some items deleted and corrected. I was just curious about what cards were out there. Thanks for replying back.

There's got to be something still holding you down, perhaps those...corrected items? How about some more details about your credit like average age of accounts, paid collections, unpaid collections, chargeoffs. This will determine what your options are so you are not just throwing darts at a board and hitting the bartender.

It will all come down to your needs and wants for the new house.  Are there any particular cards you want?

Pre-Congratulations on getting the house lined up!

How long have you had the Capital One cards? What were your scores when you got them? If your scores have improved since then, and you've built up several months of good history with Capital One, then one of the first places you should app is something like the no-AF Quicksilver. It's 3 HP, but the progression in CL that people have seen when they go back to app at CapOne is positive. You can also go for the Venture, if you want, the AF does not start until after a year and you may want to continue with that anyway.

You should check the Citi Prequalification page now. That is no impact on your CR, and you can get an idea what, if anything shows up. Take note of that now, and see if things improve after your home closing. I started monitoring the Citi Prequal earlier this year, and after it got me consistently showing lowest APR, I felt confident to go for the AAdvantage card. You may not see lowest APR, but if they give you a set APR, not a range (or it goes from a range now to a set APR later) that's a good indication you might be OK for a Citi card.

A basic AMEX may be available also, such as EveryDay, BC EveryDay, or a co-branded like the Delta Gold card. With the limited number of cards you have, but a reasonable history, you could be OK.

Also, to get some clarification, where are your scores from? Are those your mortgage FICO scores, or are they myFICO FICO 8 Credit Card-type scores?

do you any baddies at all on your reports?

If you only have 2 cards, only let ONE card report a balance of 1-9% and you'll gain a few more points. Don't app for anything until after you close. you could ruin the whole deal.
