CoBranded AMEX a pathway to AMEX

Before I begin my question is about a credit card but not sure if it belongs here or in another area.  I appologize if it does.  In addition I am not sure if this has been answered in another thread but I have not been able to find it through any of my searches so here you go.

My question is are CoBranded Amex cards considered Amex cards by Amex where once you hit your 91/3 and request a CLI you can also request a card.  I may have the times backward it may be 61 days to request the CLI.

If I am incorrect about anything I crave more light in all things AMEX.

These guidelines are for AMEX on the centurion network, not Amex network cards issued by other banks ( NFCU, MACYs etc) which have their own guidelines

Re: CoBranded AMEX a pathway to AMEX

If you are talking cobranded cards issued by Amex like the Delta/Hilton/Marriott cards then yes, they are subject to all the same parameters as the core Amex cards, including the 61-day minimum timeframe for a 3x request. They are cards issued and fully backed by Amex, and are considered true Amex cards unlike the Macy's or NFCU "Amex" cards which are backed by other banks and simply run on the Amex network.

That link provided by @Jnbmom will teach you more than you ever wanted to know about Amex.

Re: CoBranded AMEX a pathway to AMEX

@Anonymous  the cobranded cards like delta and Hilton cards through Amex are actually great ways to get a foot in the door with Amex! I was originally approved for a $2k sl on an amex delta gold and then approved shortly after for the everyday card.

it is noted the cobranded cards pose less of a barrier to entry as the core revolvers do. In addition you can request a 3x cli and 61 days as I was recently approved to bump from $2k->$6k on my delta gold at 61 days. Also, once you have a card with Amex you get the benefit of a sp when you apply for your next card in the future!

goodluck!

If I am following correctly Delta Amex is Good because it's considered a Amex and you get the same benefits as a regular Amex but Cobrands like through a Bank you. Benefits of some of the perks of a Amex but not all because they are underwritten by another entity.

Bummer I was hoping to receive a SP for my next Amex app.

Re: CoBranded AMEX a pathway to AMEX

@Anonymous  that is correct unfortunately. Bank cards that use Amex that are not truly Amex just utilize the network like a bank may utilize the visa or MasterCard network.
the offerings vary wildly with the bank Amex cards from credit one.... to the Wells Fargo propel...etc all are found on the Amex network. In my honest opinion I don't find too much benefit to these over a visa or MasterCard. The nfcu Amex network card is an excellent card and one of the few I will be adding but Amex isn't accepted everywhere where I live so if I am going for an Amex I'm using it for a specific purpose and typicall lean to visa or mc networks for my daily drivers.

now my opinion is that seeing an Amex logo on a card may make people believe that card is highly rated or carries some higher "prestige" to it. It is also my opinion this is why credit one released their Amex network card as a way to try to sneak their way out of the basement of credit cards. I believe that Amex is often associated with high tier and status (true or untrue) and using their network is an attempt to shine a light on certain offerings as being a better offering vs others.

I do believe cobranded cards if you have use are excellent and I do love Amex because they have grown exponentially in a short period of time as within 61 days they've lent me 7k between two cards thanks to the 3x cli and are more than my second highest bank card ($1500). I honestly think getting a foot in the door with Amex with work a hp because it will eventually lead to better offerings and better cards and higher limits! Just my .02.

@Anonymous @Anonymous @Jnbmom

Thanks for the advice lesson well learned it appears in my haste I was thinking all cards including cobranded fir AMEX were somewhat equal.  Have to go out to pasture for awhile before seeing if Delta or AMEX regular will show me some love.

I do agree AMEX has a prestige to it and you should pick cards for there use.  I went with it for the wrong reason but happy to have it.  NFCU is awesome.

No such benefit exists.

AMEX doesn't codify it or otherwise claim that they follow this practice,  and isn't rare that AMEX will perform a HP when a cardholder applies for another card.   It's happened to a number of members here.
