Color me surprised American Express :/

I was approved after tax returns for a Delta Platinum Business card last month after the application had been pending for a month.

I tried to apply for another business card about 2 weeks ago and it was denied with a score from the middle of my app for the delta and the actual approval so I figured I would wait until after the 12th which was the date on of the score used last month.

I applied today for a Green Personal Charge and was instantly denied and to my shock, a NEW HP on Experian!

I guess because I do not have a personal card, they HP, because the business app was the sp.

Now for another 30 days to try again~! lol

Re: Color me surprised American Express :/

It's usually SP, but YMMV at anytime

I had an app for a Plat last month that was pending until 2 days ago, and then they tried to hit me with a HP on EX. It was iced, so they pulled TU, and then denied me :/

I have both personal/biz, it's hard to definitively say what it may be that brings on a HP from them

Interesting as I've read a couple of times now if folks getting hit with an HP even though they are well established with Amex. Maybe the current economic trends are lending to them doing select HPs.

Re: Color me surprised American Express :/

Amex has been doing HPs for borderline applications and when there are multiple new accounts present, especially if paired with derogatory info on CR.

They've also upped their spy game, and are now doing ARs on TU approximately every 90 days.

You should probably look elsewhere for the time being.

Same thing happened to me.  All business apps have been SP's since my Biz Gold approval but my first try for a personal was a HP (and denial).
