I applied for an Abercrombie card and got the letter to call in for verification. Ok, easy enough. I have a fraud alert on my credit report so i'm used to that. So this was a few weeks ago. I called in, she asked the questions, which I was surprised about that they matched my report because I've had problems in the past. She asks the questions, they're all about my report, I pass, she says I'm approved, told me my limit, I'll get the card in 7-10. All standard. Ok, great I thought. Almost three weeks and I remember I should have the card by now. I call into customer service. My account was closed. What? But I'd already set everything up online, my account, added my bank account, etc. She connects me with someone in credit. They closed the account for fraud protection because I failed the security questions. Ok, immpossible because I already went through approval I explain.
Well, this person explains I was given wrong info. Really? After it was already opened? I don't understand and really, he was no help. Now, I had applied for one other Comenity card, a J. Crew. When I called in to verify, the questions had nothing to do with my credit report. I mean, none. Not even one right. They denied me. This guy made a brief mention of my getting denied and that was a reason to close my Abercrombie account. Now, I found out from him they use Experian. I called Experian and asked why this is happening. Well, they see that I have some other SS# reporting on my report and that's where these other questions are being pulled from. Experian has removed that SS# and I also had the fraud alert removed because it was starting to work against me.
I am pretty pissed off at Comenity and don't know whom to call. Anyone have any suggestions? I can't believe they'd just close an account like that after it was opened for three weeks without even trying to further verify anything? I even said I'd go into the store in person with my identification and then the rep just got rude.
I don't want them hitting my credit again.
There are numerous posts about the waste of time known as Commenity's Security dept.
I actually had a decent experience with them myself. I got flagged for fraud and they asked me a buncha questions. I had to call in a bunch of times for multiple cards and they finally got fed up and unfroze all my accounts.
They threatened to close all my accounts if I failed the questions. But all was good after I called in like 4 times. It's hit or miss whether you get a good security rep or a dunce.
