Today, I called Synchrony to recon about my app for the Paypal MC that was decined. First time I called was around 1/18 and the rep at that time told me the app was declined at this time but didn't say why. So, I let it be until I get the letter in the mail.
Fast forward to today, still no letter but I thought I would try to call again to get a better explaination as to the reason of the declined so I can work on the issue. Same thing, rep to me that the app was declined and said she couldn't tell me exactly why. But she said that they declined the app on 1/24, even though the first rep I talked to five days prior told me that they decided to decline it.
Maybe it's just me but I feel like their story is inconsistent with when they exactly denied it, not to mention that they wouldn't tell me the reason why. At least Barclay was straight forward with giving me a reason over the phone and got their letter in the mail in about 4 business days. Anyone else had similar issues with Synchrony when calling them?

Most CSR's just read from the script of the day. From what i understand Sync may give great limits but do NOT recon!. I understand your frustration but getting a straight story from them is probably like pulling teeth. Might be possible but gonna hurt nonetheless
Yeah, they even said that I should have gotten an email over a week ago stating why it was denied but I've recieved no emails from them. Was thinking about going to my Chase bank to inquire about the Amazon card but not sure now (I think they're through Synthrony). I'll see what Chase says this week if it's easier for me to app directly at the bank again in mid/late Februari like I did with the FU card. It's kind of frustrating but my score has gone up quite a bit this month and I got my sights set on the Amex Blue Cash Everyday card for later on in the spring. At least I got something to look forward to.

Yeah, what are your scores right now, sorry cant see your siggy on mobile. Now that Chase has the 5% looks like itll give the Sync one a run for its money. But in time, if we get our scores where we want them well get what we want eventually!!.
Here's my siggy:
FICO 8 Scores 12/30/2016: EX-596; TU-604; EQ-591
Current: EX-620; TU-604; EQ-591
I need to double check and update my TU and EQ score since EX went up last week from 588 to 620 when my util went down to 24%. Util. will go down even further when I make an early payment today ot tomorrow and also when the CapOne card that I just got hit the report, too.

These are two different cards. Chase offers an Amazon Visa card and Synchrony offers the Amazon store card. If you go to Chase, you'd be applying for the Chase product which would have no affiliation with the Synchrony product.
I know this probably isn't the answer you want to hear, but honestly with your average FICO 08 score sitting at 605 right now you should be thinking about rebuilding that score and not apping for any CC products. Your score suggests that your file contains some negative information. Working on getting some or all of that negative information removed would work wonders on your score. I personally don't recommend that people apply for CCs unless it's their first card unless their scores are about 700. At that point you'll get much more favorable results and not have to worry so much about approvals/denials, limits, etc.

OP where are you getting your scores from??
Credit Check Total and My FICO. Haven't checked TU and EQ since the beginning of January so I need to update that once I get home later.

Now I understand about them being different from one another. I appreciate your honesty about the apping thing and I wasn't planning to again until at least March. Last only baddie is a collection from 2014-15 that was paid but it didn't stop me from getting approved for the CapOne and Chase FU card, thankfully.
