I recently applied to care credit and other personal loans but I just did a soft credit check/pre approval to avoid my credit score being affected. Care credit pre-approved me for 19k but I didn't continue with the process.
Today I tried again going through the same pre-approval system and it only approved me for 6K which is odd to me. Shouldn't pre-approvals stay consistent if your credit score stays the same? Mine is 810-825 so I'm not sure what I could be doing to get the original loan approval amount?
If this requires waiting some period of time again is there a good time frame given the credit score doesn't seem to be the issue?
Many factors can go into pre approval/approval amounts changing. Score/Profile which likely isn't it unless other cards reported higher than normal utilization. Lenders risk/tolerance to current economic conditions (recession whether in one or one is coming), charge-off rates among many other factors. I wouldn't put to much thought into it unless you need care credit for something big if so the dental office or vet can try to get it higher for you than initial credit line.

doesn't care credit prequal ask you what you are getting it for and how much you need prior to giving you a prequal amount?
Thanks all. I figured out what it was. Apparently increasing the amount requested dropped the approved amount down to 6K. As soon as I decreased the amount requested the approved amount went back up to 19k.

That's interesting. Thanks for the DP.
I had the same exact thing happen to me, checked pre approval, it told me 17k was available but I didn't accept.... went back a few days later to go ahead and take the offer and it was only 3k, kind of freaked me out. But I did exactly what you did and they offered me the 17k again so I took it. Strange, but it works, congrats to you!
