So far I have opened 3 accounts with Discover Amex and an Old Navy card in the past 10 months. My scores range from 698-710. I have no late payments and 3500 total credit. I applied for a TJMaxx Card and got denied. So Why did I get these responses?
Too few satisfactory revolving accounts - That's why I applied!
Not enough available credit on revolving accounts
Not enough balance decreases on active non-mortgage accounts - I only have 5% usage
Too many recent inquiries - only 4 in the last 4 months
From the stated letter reasons you received and your current profile my best guess is there has been too much credit being applied for in a short period of time. What probably doesn't help there as well is Marshall's is back by the same bank as TJ Maxx which is part of the Synchrony credit card portfolio. They have been twitchy lately in giving out credit lately. That is probably what caused the denial
If you are determined to get this card I'd garden for a few months to let things cool down and reapply later this year, possibly even end of this year for the best results
@simplynoirThank you for replying. I actually made a mistake writing
Marshall's. I meant Old Navy, but your point stands. I was trying to do an app spree but I noticed when I got the Amex in April, my second app the same day was denied. And this month when my Old Navy app was accepted my same day TJMaxx app was denied. I think I'm doing it wrong! I plan to wait until September before applying for anything else. I need to thinken my file by next year so I can get a car.

You are looking good on getting some nice Auto scores so you can get good rates when the time comes. To be honest having three cards is more than enough for what you are trying to do. I'd try to limit the apps especially in the months leading to getting a car loan. Let what you have age, keep the utilization in check and perhaps consider holding back on getting another card til after you get a vehicle. If you need to get a card perhaps limit it to one app so your profile is still in good shape
