I think many applicants are trying to protect themselves as well. I for one am not saying any credit grantor is wrong for asking for this info but I am saying that many are uncomfortable providing it. In the end we either provide it as requested and worry about it or don't provide it and move on. I do agree that CU's seem to want this info more so than banks in most cases. Each side has a valid reason.

Just a note about the CU statement and that when you sign the LoanLiner agreements for different products they can recover a default from other accounts/property held at that particular instituion unlike a "Bank" where it's truly unsecured debt. However CU's do provide better service and work with you to help both parties be financially successful as they have a vested interest in you as a member.
