Hehe, add another credit card for June and an inquiry on EQ.
@Anonymous wrote:Do banks pay attention to what companies made the inquiries in the past year or so? Does 13 inquiries, 5 of them the same bank look better than 13 DIFFERENT credit card companies? I'd assume so on a manual review. You could state that some of them were for CLI since you are supposedly making more money and so on. Darn to have 5 and not 13 again, sigh...
Maybe but I'm not so certain on that one. I suspect an inquiry is an inquiry assuming same type as mortgage and auto inquiries are obviously different; possible exception if they were all at one bank and if someone else (vis a vis Chase vs. Amex) were looking to get a customer takeaway. I don't think many lenders would rationally care.
Just as a update to this thread I am posting all my inquires currently on my report. I will be thankful when alot of these are gone.

Which of them resulted in actual approvals for a card? How many are denials in those INQ?
That's a lot of inquiries! Do you still get approved with all of those inquiries? It's kinda crazy how they add up so quickly over a year or two.
@NRB525 wrote:Which of them resulted in actual approvals for a card? How many are denials in those INQ?
I have highlighted the approvals in Green the rest were denial for a new card or CLI denials
You never fully realize how many you have until you see something like this. Its a bit scary TBH
I'm so happy this thread is here. I was looking for this exact thing, as I have a serious case of the itchy mouse when it comes to applying for credit cards. Here's my story. Popcorn optional.
So my introduction to credit was probably like all of yours: college. First card ever had a $350 limit, I maxed it and never paid it. I learned how to float checks and everything. Needless to say when I went to purchase my first car and move into my first apartment I needed a co-signer. Well that's totally against my religion so I did what anyone else in my position would do I suppose: paid hefty down payments on everything.
First car - $2500 down payment
First apartment - 3mos rent
Checking accounts...forgetaboutit! Check cashing place.
I kept this up for 3 years (1998 - 2001)
After that, I flew under the radar. In and out of employment and by the time I was settled, I accumulated 3 repos and 2 evictions. Ugly. I know.
I was introduced to payday loans in 2004. Applied online for 3, expecting to only be approved for 1. Imagine my surprise when all of them came through. Then it was time to pay them off. Horrible. I was going to the ATM to withdraw all of my funds every payday at 5am. I can only imagine this is what drug addicts go through. My bank closed my checking account for "abusing" my account priviledges. Embarrassing. My sister ended up loaning me $1300 to pay the loans off and I still ended up with $1500 left to pay. So I did what anyone else in my position would do: filed chapter 7.
In the process of filing bankruptcy I incur yet another repo (my lawyer forgot to file the paperwork to declare it so I could keep it, and you can't make the payments while your "case" is open). I found out that banks love it when you file bankruptcy! This was a shock. I got pre-approval letters from creditors that I just included in my BK. So the credit slippery slope began yet again. Got 2 cards from New Millenium bank (visa and mc) and ended up maxing them out and just not caring. So I took a hiatus from the "credit score" rollercoaster until last month.
Between 2007 when my BK was discharged, and July this year I just didn't really see the point. I felt like I wasn't going to win so I gave up. Then I was taking my car to be worked on for the 2nd time in 3 months and I got to thinking: "You should buy a Porche." My brain is a little different from most. But I figured I wouldn't be able to shell out however much for a Porche. My Infiniti was $200 out of pocket. This was going to be more than that. The day after I had this dilusion of grandeur, I was reading my email and saw a pre-approval from First Premier. I had them before. Twice. Applied on a whim and BAM! Got it. Then, checked my mail the next week and there's a pre-approval offer from Capital One. Figured why not. Went online and BAM! Got that one. I felt unstoppable! I went online and applied for other stuff and ... goose egg.
So I put on my research hat and came across the SCT. Tried it and it did not work. At all.
For some insane reason, a week later I was on Old Navy's website and something (my inner deamon I suspect) said to apply for the store card. I saw Visa and wanted it instantly. So I applied and I was approved for the store card. Feeling lucky, I tried the SCT again. No dice. So I researched who the card was offered through: Synchrony. Then genius struck again and I applied for PayPal...approved, Walmart...approved, Amazon...approved. All of these with a CS below 600 (according to CK). I felt that I was on a roll so I kept going: Capital One Quicksilver One...approved, Surge (had never even heard of them)...approved, then I really got brave and applied for Barclaycard...APPROVED!!!
Over the weekend, I just couldn't stop myself. I was determined to get the SCT to work! Ended up with 2 accounts that I'll never use, in persuit of 2 accounts that I WOULD use. Then I crashed back to reality: my score dropped 8 points! But I still have an itcy mouse finger for making that damn SCT work! So I'm here...and I'm an addict.

KCGal,
I am glad you shared your story and want you to know we are here to help. My story was very similar to yours in that when I was younger mismanaged my credit and made poor decsions. Back in October I had a no joke 550 FICO score and because I had burned HSBC, Credit One and First Premier, they would not give me a card. Once I got my first decent card I went nuts apping. I mean I am 39 years old and this was the first time I had been appproved for nice card and had a FICO over 620. Really sad, I know. When realized what was happening due to some great community members calling me on it, created this thread to raise awareness to this issue and provide support to people like us.
I would say join us in the garden and let these new accounts age. If you get the app itch you can always hit the pre-qual pages of the banks but DO NOT app. It will do you no good. Remember we are here to help. Welcome to the thread!

Yeah they do. Kind of funny because about 6 months ago they would not touch me with a 10 foot pole. Citi, AMEX, US Bank and Discover are still holding out but I'm certain with a year of gardening under my belt they will relent.
