First, thanks to every member of the forum who takes the time to share their experiences and opinions with me on this subject. I've been with Credit Karma for a few years now and watched how their credit card recommendations changed. Six months ago CK recommended AMEX BCE as "very good approval odds" and I was approved. I have a CC with a balance and would like to do a BT to a card with a BT offer. Credit Karma is recommending 2 cards for BTs.. Citibank's Diamond Preferred with "very good approval odds" and Citi's Simplicity with "excellent approval odds". I'm close to being 8 years post CH7 and I burned Citi... I believe in the $2k range. I've had a Best Buy Visa since 2010... as we all know used to be HBSC then CP1 and finally Citibank.
CK claims to recommend these cards based on my CH, CS etc. They were spot on with AMEX and they have yet to recommend Chase. I know that Chase denies with a BK on your reports. Not too sure about Citi. With my limited experience with CK recommendations, would anyone like share their experiences with CK or Citibank and BKs? My utility stands at 9%, no maxed cards, no baddies except for my BK. FAKO experian 755, TU 712 EQ 722. Last pull reveal from TU 6 months ago 754. Again thanks for opinions and comments. ![]()
Credit Karma approval odds are complete garbage.

A few months ago I had a Capital One charge off on my account and CK suggested I believe the Platnium card. Yeah, right. A few days ago CK suggested the Citi Double Cash, probably knowing that's the card I want the most right now, but I have a secured card with Citi and my score + 1 collection account still on my report definitely won't be in my favor when it comes to the DC card. Believe me, I check the preapproval site at least once a week. CK's recommendations are well, to be ignored.
CK recommendations are not reliable.
CK is a crap shoot with its approval odds. Often, CK suggests I apply for cards which I already have.

CK recommendations can be very reliable - 90% of the time they recommend cards I already have in my wallet. ![]()
On a more serious note, CK doesn't make any money giving you your credit reports for free, they do make money getting you to app for a CC from a link on their site. That should tell you all you need to know about CK recommendations. As already suggested, use the pre-qualification site most CC companies offer, most are reliable, if they list a specific card with a specific interest rate. If it says from "9.99% to 24.99%" (or similar range) it's not a real pre-qual.

The reason for my question is that with CK's AMEX recommendation is I was able to see if I was prequalified with AMEX from CK's site. There is no such option with CK and Citibank. I've never been prequalified with Citi on their site and I thought it was more or less as useless as Discover's USED to be. A good friend was never prequalified with Citi on their site but he apped anyway and was approved. Guess this is what I need to do and take the HP.
Thanks to everyone for your replies and comments. It's very much appreciated.
