haha I think it's funny when ccc's send out invitations for cards I already have with them. But after seeing how many people on here have several of the same card, I guess I get it. Especially since I now have 2 QS and Ventures. That extra 13k was too good to pass up!
@MissMc89 wrote:I checked my mail and saw that in addition to the letter from Discover that I was expecting from them which explains that I was turned down for the Discover It card because of a deliquency from 2011, I received not just one but TWO invitations to apply for...wait for it... the Discover It card. -__- I'm pretty sure that it's just a generic invitation they send out to everyone, but it's so ironic to get mail turning me down for a card that I'm being invited to apply for just an envelope later. This company loves playing with my emotions. I applied in the first place because of the invitation only to get turned down and now this.
*I know it's nothing personal and that an invitation or prequaification doesn't necessarily mean that someone will get approved for a card.
I love your disclaimer. It really does seem like posters reply with that all the time even when the OP is being quite clear that they understand this fact, but that they are just annoyed by it.
I have to say, Discover is a strange bird. They approve some ridiculously low scores for the Discover It, but deny some surprisingly high ones who have received the same mailer. Of course, there's more than just scores...
Discover is generally conservative with starting limits etc and CLIs seem to occur more frequently if one is using the card for everyday spending (i.e. not just 5% categories). This is the case with most issuers, they want to see you spend on the card.
Anyway, their mailers are pure marketing. Toss them in the trash. They mean nothing. I'm sure you won't apply for a card based on the mailer again! Sorry about the denial.
I'm really glad I opted out so I don't have to have my emotions toyed with. I'm sorry OP.

Same reason I opted out. That means I apply for what I want, not what I'm 'prequalified' for.
Discover cracks me up. Had another "invitation" in the mail yesterday.

If it were me I would take all three letters put them in a big envelope and send them to Discover EO office including a note with a big ? on it. But that is just me and I can get quite ornery about these things.

Lol I too got a mailer, applied, got denied, and then got 3 MORE MAILERS in one week.
Well, I'm gonna go there - was the invitation letter in a plain, cheap white paper envelop or was it a nice, high quality embossed paper envelop? A while back several of us in a Discover commented on the envelop quality - 3 of us (including me) who got the embossed envelop were all approved, while a couple who got the cheap envelop were denied.
I app'd for Discover last Oct and was turned down flat, with scores just over 700 and 4 years post BK7. In June I started receiving the invite mailer every week. At first I thought "Yeah, right, not wasting another HP on these guys". But when I got the 3rd one - in the nice embossed envelop - I thought "Well, maybe they do realy want me". I app'd and was approved for $4k SL.
Then in July I got an invite letter from Cap One to app for Spark personal biz card. It came in a nice embossed envelop, so after thinking it over I app'd - instant approval for $5k SL. I'm now a believer in those invite letters that come in the nicer quality embossed envelop. ![]()

DaveInAZ, you make a good point about the envelope quality. My first Discover pre-approval came in basic white envelope, now the last one came in a nice purple velvety envelope. Hopefully that is a good sign if I ever pul the trigger.
Just curious, for those who applied and were denied, what APR was showing on your pre-approval letters?
